Bridgeport News: Bar Fight Now Possible Homicide

UPDATE from the City of Bridgeport: Ø  The victims name is Wayne Bentley of West Haven, Conn. (DOB: 2/26/1973).    The incident remains an apparent drowning, but the cause of death hasn’t been definitively declared yet.   This remains an active investigation, and anyone with information should contact Detective Vincent Lariccia at (203) 581-5229.

Just after 1:30 Saturday morning Bridgeport Police received a call that two males went to the back of Chubby’s

at 3488 Fairfeild Avenue to fight and only one came back. It was feared the other person was possibly in the water behind the bar in Ash Creek

Both Fairfield and Bridgeport Firefighters as well as police responded to the scene as a full assignement. Both departments worked with small boats and thermal cameras looking for the victim. After about 30 minutes of searching they located the victim. He was loaded into the ambulance and was unresponsive. The ambulance remained on scene for another 20 minutes before leaving to Bridgeport Hospital.

Firefighters always give me a report but were unable to this time because it is now being investigated and the area is now a crime scene. Multiple sources have told me the victim did not make it however this has NOT been confirmed.

New York Police Department also assisted, I’m told they were in town working the Vibes Concert at Seaside Park.

If I get any further information I’ll update you on DoingItLocal.com.

Protecting Recruiting Centers (Part 1)

On July 16, 2015, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez opened fire on two military installations in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Military installations are gun free zones.  A number of citizens have taken up arms to protect our military recruiting center at 4490 Main Street.  Citizens in Connecticut are not accustomed to seeing armed citizens and have received mixed encounters with police.  Ray Foote had a positive experience, here is his story.

Bridgeport News: Courthouse Evacuated

11:44am–#Bridgeport CT–The Golden Hill Courthouse on Golden Hill Street has been evacuated for a report of a white powdery substance.  The fire alarm also went off, possibly to evacuate the building.  I went to the scene and found no firefighters on scene other than the shift commander.  They could possibly be staged elsewhere but I did not see them.  I have a call into the Bridgeport Fire spokesperson for official details.
