Bridgeport Receives Grants To Rid City Of Eye Sore

Bridgeport, Conn. (May 28, 2015) – Background: Today, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch joined officials from the Environmental Protection Agency in announcing a $200,000 grant from the federal agency to clean up the run down property at 141 Stratford Avenue. The site formerly housed the company AGI Rubber, but has been run-down for decades. “This is great news. With these funds, we’ll soon begin knocking down a run-down property that has plagued a central location in our city for decades. Doing so will make the property more attractive to job creators and investors, allowing us to continue developing the waterfront. Thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency and our federal delegation for working with us to make Bridgeport better every day.”

Today was historical for DoingItLocal as I was at my in-laws all afternoon.  I monitored all my office scanners via a combination of software and apps on my cellphone.  All posts including the photo was by cellphone.  This gives me more freedom to covert the news while still sort of having a life,  It also puts me light years ahead of any media whether it be local,  state or nationally!

Milford News: Service Above Self Awards

#MILFORD CT – Devon Rotary held its semi-annual Service Above Self awards breakfast on Wednesday, May 13th, 2015 at the Bridge House Restaurant in Milford, CT.  The awardees are Joseph Romick-Barrell from Jonathan Law High School, Monica Capriglione from Platt Tech, Jamiah Bennett from Lauralton Hall, and Emma Bromley from Foran High School. Guidance Counselors Barbara Kovacs, Louise Wade, and Sue Fracker were on hand to support and introduce the awardees.   The Dodie Ireland Memorial Service Above Self Awards recognize students for their commitment to service to their high school as well as to their home community.  The students are selected by the awards committee at their high school, and then recognized at an Awards Breakfast where they are…
