On 04/23/2022 the Stratford Police Department investigated a robbery in the Town of Stratford. It was determined the victim placed an online Facebook Market Place advertisement to sell an IPHONE. The suspect and victim met at a prearranged location where the suspect assaulted the victim and stole his IPHONE. The victim observed a handgun during the robbery. The Stratford Police Detective Bureau with the assistance of the Bridgeport Police Department Task Force identified the main suspect as SHAHIEM DONALD(DOB 10/09/2003) of Ansonia. It was later determined Donald and his co-conspirators would contact various victims throughout Fairfield County online to arrange to either buy or sell IPHONES and other items. MAYOR HOYDICK VOTES AGAINST SALE OF SIKORSKY AIRPORT TO CONNECTICUT AIRPORT AUTHORITY

STRATFORD – During a Special Meeting late yesterday afternoon the Sikorsky Memorial Airport Commission voted in favor of selling the airport to the Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA).  The vote was conducted over the objection of Mayor Laura R. Hoydick who cast the lone vote in opposition as the only Stratford member of the Commission.  In March of this year, when Bridgeport changed their position from wanting to enter into an operator agreement with the CAA for the airport to outright selling it to them, Mayor Hoydick publicly expressed interest in pursuing the purchase of the airport by Stratford.  The airport, owned by the City of Bridgeport since 1937, is entirely situated within the territorial boundaries of Stratford.  “We have expressed the concerns…

Stratford Library Offers “Stress Management” Talk

Health Program Set for May 10 on Zoom             The Stratford Library has announced that it will host a virtual, live program about managing stress.  “Stress Management: A Proactive Approach” is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10 from 12-1 pm.  The program, available on the Library’s Zoom platform, is free and open to the public. Wellness Expert Jill Patterson returns to the Library with an engaging workshop explaining what stress is, how the body responds to stress and how one can manage stress. Participants will learn about a variety of tools including nutrition for stress management, movement and other modalities.  Stress is very common today and can wreak havoc on the immune system, health and well-being.  Patterson will discuss strategies that will provide solutions for optimal stress management. CAA Makes Play for the Authority to Seize Land Surrounding Airports

  Legislation Would Allow CT Airport Authority to use Eminent Domain to Expand Sikorsky Memorial Airport through Land Seizure  STRATFORD – Mayor Laura R. Hoydick is calling out the Connecticut Airport Authority on legislation they are pushing before the Connecticut General Assembly which would transfer the powers of eminent domain relative to airports from the State’s Department of Transportation to the Connecticut Airport Authority.    The legislation, HB 5308, An Act Implementing the Recommendations of the Connecticut Airport Authority and Changes to the Board of Directors of Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority, has received a joint favorable approval from the legislature’s Transportation Committee, and awaits action by the House of Representatives.  CAA Executive Director Kevin Dillon testified in support of the bill when it…

Homicide Investigation:The Stratford Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on LightStreet near Barnum Avenue at approximately 1am on this date. During the incident twoindividuals were shot by an unknown assailant. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A female victim was transported to a localhospital and is being treated for wounds received during the assault. At this time no names arebeing released until next of kin can be notified. The scene is active and Barnum Avenue will be closed to traffic between Bruce Avenue andBoston Avenue until approximately noon.
