First Pool of Mosquitoes in Stratford Test Positive for West Nile Virus
Stratford, Connecticut (July 29, 2025) - The Stratford Health Department announced that the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station reported mosquitos trapped at Beaver Dam Road last week have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). The isolates were from the Culex salinarius, a mammal biting species of mosquitoes. “It is usually around this time of year where the state reports that they have found pools of mosquitos testing positive for West Nile Virus in our area, and we expect to see more positive pools into late summer. I urge all residents to take the necessary and simple steps to prevent exposure and bites,” said Andrea Boissevain, Director of Health. Stratford Smoke Shop Busted for Illegal Weed Sales

Detectives observed what appeared to be street-level narcotics trafficking at the “Whyte Widow” Smoke Shop at 564 Success Avenue. Using a confidential informant, NVI detectives conducted several controlled cannabis buys from within the shop. Based on the investigation, a search warrant was obtained on June 30, 2025. On July 8, 2025, at 11:45 AM, NVI detectives executed the warrant. We have reports that Stratford Police are breaking up a gathering by the Stratford Wendy's on Main Street. Witnesses are saying that there are multiple groups of young adults and/or kids being currently talked to and dispersed by police.
Stratford Fatal Crash
Stratford Police said that on July 1, 2025, at about 9:10 am, a single-car crash took place near the intersection of Ferry Boulevard and Barnum Avenue Cutoff. The vehicle was occupied solely by a 75-year-old driver, a resident of Bridgeport, CT, who was transported to Bridgeport Hospital but was later pronounced dead. The Stratford Police crash investigation team is currently working to determine the cause of the accident. 2025-07-01@9:10am
