A Westport Firefighter left yesterday for Northern California to assist with the wildfires after Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency. Assistant Chief Michael Kronick is joining the 20-person fire crew from the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew that is part of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The D.E.E.P. maintains a roster of staff and personnel from local fire departments who are certified to fight wildfires, which in turn allows Connecticut to participate in a reciprocal aid program operated by the U.S. Forest Service. Bridgeport Police Press Release: #Bridgeport, Conn. (August 4, 2015) – Yesterday evening, a two-year-old child was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Pearl St. and Park St. The child was transported to Bridgeport hospital, and is currently in fair condition. The child’s mother said that the two-year-old was in the backyard of their home playing, and must have snuck out. The child’s mother also noted that she did not witness the accident. The driver of the vehicle was issued an infraction for operating without a license. Police were called to the parking lot of Whole Foods, 399 Post Road West, on a report of an infant left unattended in a vehicle. Arrested on $1,000 bond was Milan Kunajukr of Westport. Upon arrival the officers found the vehicle unlocked and running with the infant inside. Kunajukr exited the store and returned to her vehicle a short time after police arrival. Based on the facts and circumstances she was place under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Arrangements were made to have the father take custody of the infant who was evaluated by EMS before leaving the area.
