Kidnapping scare was attempted scam

6:06pm--#Fairfield CT-- A Greenfield Street resident received a call that her son was kidnapped and "he would not be released until the gave them money". Police and the detective bureau investigated and after a brief search found the son safe and sound.  The phone call originated from Puerto Rico.  This same scam happened last year to a Housatonic University student, police locked down a portion of downtown to find it too was a scam.    If you receive a call from area code 945 there is no area code in the United States and if you Google the area code it is host to a number of scams so be ware of that area code!

Gunman Dies After Being Shot By Bridgeport Police

9:44pm-#Bridgeport CT--A city police detective shot and wounded an armed suspect during a confrontation in The Hollow Monday night.   The suspect later died at the hospital. The incident happened near the corner of Pequonnock Street and Benham Avenue.  The detective was inside Golfinho's Fish Market when he was alerted to a report of a man with a rifle outside the establishment. The detective exited the store and observed the suspect armed with a long gun in a confrontation with two other people. The detective then drew his weapon.
