Fire leaves 3 homeless in Fairfield. Story and Photos by Rich Pittera—Fairfield Fire Department responded to 131 Tunxis Hill Road shortly before 6p.m. Sunday evening. Heavy fire was showing from the rear of the building. Firefighters affected a quick knockdown and then entered the building and performed a primary search. The building was found unoccupied with the exception of two family pets; two cats. Both cats were located and were evacuated safely. The fire was then quickly extinguished and the damage was relatively minor compared to what it could have been.

The fire appeared to have originated from second floor in the rear of the building, and extended from an outside porch to the inside of the residence. The bulk of the damage was confined to the second floor apartment and the part of the building that was on fire upon arrival by the fire department. The building had a residential living unit on the second floor with a family of three living inside and two stores on the first floor; Beijing, a Chinese restaurant and Adams hair salon. Minor smoke damage was caused on the first floor, but pending inspection by the Health Department, intentions are to allow the stores to open as soon as possible. The upper apartment however, is completely uninhabitable. Red Cross was called to assist the family and secure accommodations. Neither the Salon nor the Restaurant were believed to be of fault, however, cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation by the Fairfield Fire Marshal’s office.
