6:03pm–Police are reporting a large power outage in the Black Rock Section of Bridgeport.  6:13 Update Officer just reported lights went back on.

 

4:37pm–Attempted robbery at Wood Market, 427 Wood Avenue, no weapon displayed.

Robber was wearing a light purple Champion Hoodie and fled on a bicycle towards Maplewood Ave.

 

4:12pm–Bridgeport–Report of a fire at 597 Pearl Harbor Street,  FD on scene reporting smoke coming from the rear of the building.  4:18 UPDATE–Rubbish fire extinguished, not in the structure.

 

12:33pm–Attempted bank robbery at Community Bank, East Main Street.  PD looking for a 5′ 6″ black male wearing all black displayed a black handgun.  He  fled towards CVS/Vinny’s Pizza area.  Police canine are in the area tracking suspect.

 

1:33am–Bridgeport–Fire Department on the scene of Prospect House (homeless shelter) on Prospect Street. Building has been evacuated, FD is investigating.  UPDATE-No fire reported.

1:22am–Bridgeport–Pickup truck strikes telephone pole on North Ave. and Islandbrook Ave. Driver complaining of chest pain, ambulance on the way.

1:01am–Report of an odor of natural gas at 92 Denver Ave. This always brings out lots of fire apparatus and wakes the whole neighborhood!  1:11am UPDATE- Zero readings alarm recalled.

Extortion Scams Keep Bridgeport and Fairfield Police Busy

Police investigate possible leads.

At 1:13pm today police were contacted by a woman from Housatonic Community College that she received a cell phone call from a “professional kidnapper” stating he her brother in the trunk of his car, and if she wanted to see him again she was to withdraw money from the bank. Police immediately set up a perimeter and started looking for possible suspects in the area. Plain clothed detectives and unmarked police cars followed the woman as she follow directions from the “kidnapper” on her cell phone as she walked to People’s Bank on Main Street to withdraw money. She was then told to wire the money. She then went to the Kwik Pack and Ship on Broad Street. She was instructed to wire the money out of the country.

Victim was told to wire money out of country.

Police received a similar call earlier this morning from a man that was told his son was in the trunk of the car, the man had no son and hung up on him. It was then police realized this was another scam phone call.

Police in Fairfield are investigating “Grandma Scam” phone call that came in at 2:45pm today.  The person scamming usually calls  older people in the community with a teen crying “Grandma I’m in jail” or other such story and that they need to be wired money to get them  out of trouble or tries to get credit card information.

Bridgeport–Fire Department locates overloaded extension on Hollister Ave. when called for a smell of electrical burning.

11:34am–Fairfield–Police are investigating a break in at Hunan Pavillion at 80 Post Road. Thieves force a window for entry sometime overnight.

10:57–Terminated BJs employee arrested by Fairfield Police for posting threats to employees on Facebook. Police had a extensive manhunt on at Black Rock Turnpike/Brewster St. and Fairfield/Canfield Ave. Area.

10:01am–Fairfield—Police activity around BJs / Fairfield Ave. and Brewster St. Police are looking for a 97 tan Toyota Daewoo CT plate 472 TWY. The operator is considered armed and dangerous.
