Arrest Made In 3 Year- Old Press Conference-Bridgeport CT

Bridgeport--Police have arrested one man in connection with the shooting last month that struck and wounded a 3 year old child last month. Anthony "Wompy" Small, 20, who was shot in the hand during the shooting, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshal Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force at a home in Waterbury. He is being held by a $250,000 bond. Chief of Police Joseph Gaudette said in a press conference Thursday evening "The fact that this involved an innocent 3-year-old girl in a broad daylight shooting in a residential neighborhood where people need to be able to walk safely and freely about that really hit home for us." Red Cross Awards in Fairfield

At their regular Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Wednesday the Fairfield Board of Selectmen recognized the following individuals who recently received The American Red Cross’ 2012 Community Heroes of Lower Fairfield County Award: Fairfield Police Officer Scott M. Sudora and Bob Trez who won the Law Enforcement/Good Samaritan Adult Award. The Red Cross said that “Bob Trez, owner of the Penfield Service Center on the Post Road in Fairfield, saw his friend collapse in a chair, called 911 and administered CPR. Officer Sudora, was on patrol in a neighboring area, but knowing he was closer to the location than the area patrol car, he volunteered to take the call, knowing as Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara said in his nomination,…

Pedestrian Struck At Villa Ave Fairfield

Around 2:15 Wednesday afternoon a pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk at the intersection of Tunxis Hill and Villa Avenue. A firetruck was stopped at a red light when the accident occurred and called the accident in to dispatch. The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Police are investigating.

Bridgeport Dedicates Fountain To Flight Pioneer

The City of Bridgeport paid homage to its own aviation pioneer Gustave Whitehead when it unveils the “First in Flight” sculpture and fountain at the intersection of State Street, Fairfield Avenue and Commerce Drive Tuesday.  State and local dignitaries, descendants of both Gustave Whitehead and one of the witnesses to Whitehead’s early flights will be in attendance at the event. The sculpture of Whitehead’s plane was crafted by noted artist and sculptor Ron Cavalier. The fountain was designed by Theodore L. Grabarz, AIA, ASLA.

Car Into A Building After Crash

Shortly after midnight Sunday morning firefighters, EMTs and police responded to a 2 car accident at Nobel Avenue and Barnum Avenue.    After the impact with the car, the SUV crashed into an iron gate and came resting on a building at the corner.  Four people were sent to nearby hospitals with injuries from the crash.  Police are investigating.

False Carjacking Story Triggers Manhunt in Trumbull

10:26pm--Trumbull--Around 10:25pm Sunday night a "Be On The Look Out" report was broadcasted to local police that a car jacking occurred on Route 8 near exit 10 or 11.  Trumbull Police with the aid of nearby towns quickly set up perimeter on Huntington and Merritt Boulevard, the back side of Huntington Road near Beaver Dam and Hawley Lane at Huntington Road.  Canine from Shelton aided in setting up a track in the wooded area.   About twenty minutes later radio transmissions said "the operator made up the story" possibly to cover up an auto accident.

Circular Wind Blows Tent Tops Off Boy Scout Jam

Orange--We received multiple tweets on our Twitter account that a strong circular wind whipped through the Orange Fairgrounds on Orange taking down many tops and tents at the Boy Scout Jam. Special thanks to @cluise for providing this photo. There are reports of six Boy Scouts injured with two being transported to the hospital for minor injuries. @sherig12 said "closest thing to a tornado I have ever seen in person". @sherig12: "Large gust of wind lifted tents. Spirally sucked up papers & then went away quickly.

Motorcycle Accident Sends 1 To Hospital

At 08:26am Saturday morning the Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries involving a motorcycle in the parking lot of the Edge Fitness Center located at 500 Kings Highway Cutoff. Fire units arrived on scene and found a motorcycle under the front of a SUV with fluids spilled on the ground. The motorcycle operator was treated on scene by emergency responders for non-life threatening, traumatic injuries and was transported to the hospital by AMR ambulance. The driver of the SUV was unhurt and refused treatment on scene. Assistant Chief Scott Bisson stated, “The operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and it appears to have prevented more serious injuries.”…
