(Bridgeport, CT – Sep 9, 2013) – An 84-year-old man was arrested Thursday on a warrant charging him with sexually assaulting a child.

Bridgeport Detective Eric King learned that Joseph Livramento, who most recently lived in Cape Verde off the coast of Africa, had returned to Connecticut and had a scheduled appointment at a doctor’s office. He was arrested there Thursday when he arrived at his appointment.

Livramento was wanted on a 2007 arrest warrant in connection with the sexual assault of a young relative, who at the time was warrant was 12 years old.

The warrant was secured by Detective Warren Del Monte, who passed away in 2011. Livramento was held on $350,000 bond.

“Warren was the consummate professional and he took his job personally,” said Capt. James Viadero, who heads the detective division.  “I know he would be happy that he could bring justice to this victim.”

Based on accounts from the victim, Livramento assaulted the girl over numerous years both at her home in Bridgeport and during family trips to Cape Verde.

Livramento faces charges of first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
