#Westport Connecticut— Today at approximately 1 P.M. the Westport Police Department received a report of an unoccupied kayak floating approximately one third of a mile off the Soundview and Hillspoint Road section of Compo Beach. The arriving officer learned that there was one person stranded on the rock island and a second person had kayaked out to reclaim the unoccupied kayak. The on scène Officer was attempting to maintain a visual on the kayaker while Westport Marine Police Lieutenant Ryan Paulsson and Officer Scott Morrison had launched the Police rescue inflatable to assist.

While in route it was learned that the kayaker was experiencing trouble and was unable to work his way back to shore due to the offshore wind. The kayaker was rescued approximately a mile and a half off shore holding onto oyster markers in the water. The rescued kayaker was safely brought on board without incident. The second person was recovered from the island and both were dropped off on Compo Beach with the two kayaks. Neither person had floatation devices with them or in the kayaks at the time of the incident.
