Mayor Joe Ganim joined city leaders to announce the development team in a retail development at 1206 Stratford Avenue which would include a grocery store, Optimus Health Care, a pharmacy, restaurant, laundromat, and a hair salon. Mayor Ganim said the proposed grocery store signed up was Gala Foods Supermarket which has two locations in the city.
 
Demolition of a large area has already taken place. The demolition of the old Newfield will commence soon. Construction of the plaza is expected in the spring of 2019. Councilpersons Ernie Newton and Eneida Martinez have been pushing for this for years.
 
Anthony Steward, managing partner at Ashlar Construction said “we’re from here, our heart is here, and our commitment is for the East End of Bridgeport.
