On the afternoon of Wednesday, February 25, 2026, an employee of Volvo of Westport, 556 Post Road East, contacted police to report a stolen motor vehicle; a 2022 Rivian. The car was equipped with a tracking feature that when activated showed its location as 1320 Post Road East in Westport. Officers responded there and discovered it was parked and unoccupied in the rear of the lot. Surveillance showed that the suspects in the vehicle theft were possibly same as those in an overnight burglary that had occurred on the same date and near the location where the Rivian was recovered.
That burglary investigation remains active, and no arrests have been made at this time. Through follow-up by the department’s detective bureau and information sharing with other agencies, Jancarlos Castillo and Jeffrey Jimenez were developed as suspects in the vehicle theft. Arrest warrants were sought and granted for both individuals. On Wednesday, September 17, the Westport Police Department was contacted by the New Haven Correctional Center advising that both Castillo and Jimenez were scheduled to be released from their facility. Officers responded and took custody of both in connection with the active warrants for their arrest. Both were transported to Westport Police Headquarters and formally charged in connection with the warrants. Both Castillo and Jimenez were charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (First Offense) and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny of a Vehicle (1st Offense). Court had set bonds for both at $150,000.00. Both were unable to post these bonds and were transported to Stamford Superior Court for arraignment on the morning of Thursday, September 17, 2026.
