(Westport, CT) – In the overnight hours of Thursday, November 5, 2026, officers were alerted by a stationary LPR of a stolen vehicle that had entered town limits at Wilton Road near the Merritt Parkway. Officers conducted a canvas of the surrounding area and were initially unable to locate the vehicle. Later this morning, this same vehicle was observed by an officer traveling on Compo Road South near the intersection with Compo Beach Road. Upon seeing the marked police cruiser, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and out of the officer’s sight. Believing it might be traveling toward Interstate 95, the officer continued eastbound on Greens Farms Road and located the vehicle crashed into a tree near 142 Greens Farms Road. It had sustained disabling damage. Responding officers were subsequently able to quickly locate and take into custody three individuals that are alleged to be the occupants of this stolen vehicle. Out of an abundance of caution, officers continue to maintain a presence in the surrounding area, since it is characterized by a significant amount of open space. The purpose of this is two-fold. Officers are making a thorough search of the area to be sure that no additional evidence was discarded during the suspects’ initial/unwitnessed flight from the vehicle. Investigators are also continuing to assess whether an additional individual may have been involved in this incident. Currently, there is no reliable information indicating an additional threat to the public, however as always, we urge our residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The Westport Police Department will provide any relevant updates as further information becomes available. UPDATE: At this time an individual was taken into custody at a private residence on Greens Farms Road after requesting assistance from the homeowner. Based on evidence recovered by officers at the crash scene, it is now firmly believed that all the parties involved in this morning’s incident are accounted for.
