DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Brush Fire Shuts Down Lanes on I-95 in Westport

Westport firefighters were dispatched at 12:21 PM Friday to a report of a brush fire on I-95 southbound between Exits 19 and 18. The initial assignment included Engine 5, Engine 2, and Car 3. Upon arrival, Engine 5 found an active brush fire alongside the highway. Car 3 reported that the fire was rapidly spreading due to terrain and wind conditions, prompting a request for additional resources. Engine 4 was called to access the fire from Sasco Creek Road, while Fairfield Fire Department responded with one engine and Rescue 1 to I-95, as well as an engine and Car 3 to assist Engine 4 on Sasco Creek Road. On August 4, 2025, around 4:30 PM, Westport Police received multiple calls reporting individuals attempting to pass counterfeit bills at various businesses throughout town. Witnesses provided accurate descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle, allowing police to locate one suspect inside Choice Pet at 374 Post Road East and the others nearby in the suspect vehicle. Officers determined the group had visited several retail stores in Westport and had allegedly passed numerous counterfeit bills. Over several months, Norwalk Police Department’s Special Services Division investigated illegal narcotics sales in Norwalk and greater Fairfield County, identifying three individuals involved in large-scale drug possession and distribution. Arrest operations took place between July 30 and August 1, 2025. On July 30, 2025, Kevin Daniel Reese, 33, was arrested and charged with four counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, four counts of Sale of Narcotics, three counts of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Suspension, two counts of Conspiracy to Sell a Narcotic Substance, and one count of Conspiracy to Possess a Controlled Substance.
