Bridgeport News: 107 Year Old Woman Escapes Fire

3:40pm--#Bridgeport CT-- A 107-year-old woman escaped unscathed with the help of family when a fire broke out in her home at 292/294 Maplewood Avenue.  Chief Thode of the Bridgeport Fire Department confirmed the fire started in the basement and spread to the first floor.  He said everyone made it out of the home safely and there were no injuries to either the occupants or of the firefighters.  Four handlines were used to put out the blaze.  The fire marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire.  Servpro is on scene to make it Like It Never Even Happened and John Cotter of Nutmeg Public Adjusters will make sure the homeowner gets full compensation from their insurance comapny.

Bridgeport Senators Vote To Ban Bump Stocks

HARTFORD, CT – Democrats in the State Senate today led passage of critical public safety legislation banning bump stocks which can turn semi-automatic weapons into automatic weapons. Bump stocks are devices that transform the firing mechanism of a semi-automatic weapon into a weapon that fires like a fully automatic weapon; a bump stock was used in the Las Vegas shooting, where the shooter was able to fire an estimated 90 shots in 10 seconds. I-95 Shooter Surrenders After Standoff

#UPDATE:  Matthew A. Bouton, 27, of High Ridge Drive was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, discharge of a firearm, second-degree breach of peace and criminal possession of a firearm, ammunition and a dangerous weapon.   #Stratford CT-- #NewHaven CT-- #Bridgeport CT--A suspect in Ford Fusion wanted for allegedly shooting at cars on I-95 in Stratford and New Haven surrounded to state police after a standoff in a bikers clubhouse at  529 Grand Street.  The standoff lasted at least two hours before the surrender.  A firearm was also recovered.  The registration to the car came back to an address at High Ridge Drive in Bridgeport.  State Police spokesperson Sergeant Eric J Haglund said "a criminal information summary will be provided once it is available".…

Police UPDATE: Danyell Pickett, 41, of Whalley Avenue, New Haven was charged with breach of peace and risk of injury to a child.  He beat it after posting a $5,000 bond.
