#Bridgeport News: The 18 year old male involved in the police shooting on Woodmont Avenue last night is identified as Austin Carr (6/7/98). Carr resides at 416 French Street, Bridgeport. On March 29, 2017 at 1910 hours, an officer involved shooting occurred in the area of 436 Woodmont Avenue, Bridgeport. This is located in the north end of the city. Bridgeport police officers were conducting an operation in this area in response to recent incidents of street robberies. During this operation, two male perpetrators were encountered by officers. Both male perpetrators were armed, and one Bridgeport police officer discharged his service weapon in response to the actions of one of the armed males. This male sustained a single gunshot wound to the face and was transported by medics to St. Vincent's Medical Center for treatment. 1:49pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- Police attempted to pull over a stolen Kia on Colorado Avenue. The stolen vehicle took off on police but quickly crashed into a parked van at the intersection of Colorado and Fairfield Avenue. Police captured the driver and a passenger after a quick foot pursuit, a second passenger is still at large.
The City of Bridgeport is alerting residents of repairs to the Capital Avenue Bridge over Rooster River that will temporarily close Capital Avenue from Laurel Avenue to Wood Avenue for six months beginning April 1, 2017. The purpose of this project is to replace the existing deteriorated Capital Avenue Bridge with a new structure that has low initial and life-cycle costs, minimizes the impacts to local residents, and requires minimal maintenance for the City. The project will take approximately six months to complete which includes removal of the current structure, heavy construction, site cleanup, and miscellaneous work.
