First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that the Town of Fairfield is holding its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday August 29, 2015 at Veterans Park on Reef Road from 9 am to 2 pm. Please visit the Town’s Hazardous Waste Collection web page, http://www.fairfieldct.org/hazwaste, for a list of acceptable (and unacceptable) materials. Since May 1990, the towns and cities which are members of HazWaste Central have disposed of and recycled more than 1,000,000 gallons of hazardous waste. On Saturday August 29, 2015, the Town of Fairfield will need volunteers from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Volunteers will not be handling any hazardous waste. 9:30pm--#cttraffic--#Westport CT-- A police pursuit with State Police ends after I-95 northbound is shutdown at exit 17 and troopers box the driver in. Unknown what the driver is wanted for at this time but you know their charges just got a lot more serious!
2:55pm--#Fairfield CT-- Sprinkler systems prevented a major fire in the high density apartments at 130 Fairchild Avenue on the second floor. The dead end street is clogged with emergency vehicles as the opponents of the high density apartment have claimed would happen in an emergency. Firefighters find a heavy smoke condition on the second floor and are now reading high carbon monoxide levels throughout the building. Firefighters are in the process of ventilating and because of the carbon monoxide levels each apartment must be metered by the firefighters. Two people are being evaluated for smoke inhalation.
3:50pm--#Fairfield CT--Firefighters are on scene at Gould Manor Park for a sudsy substance that has killed off some fish and eels. Firefighters are trying to determine what the substance is but with water soluble materials is is difficult because the equipment will read mostly water. They suspect it is caused by someone washing their car in the neighborhood not knowing the water from the catch basin empties into the pond. The continue investigating. Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has been notified of the incident.
