Asian Longhorned Ticks Identified In Fairfield Beach Area

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut (June 21, 2022) – Last week researchers from Western Connecticut State University’s (WCSU) Tickborne Disease Prevention Laboratory identified several Asian longhorned ticks (ALT’s) from a dog of a Fairfield beacharea resident. Due to this finding, the WCSU research team yesterday conducted surveillance sampling of the overflow grass parking areas of Penfield Beach and various areas at Jennings Beach and found a significant number of these ticksin these areas, indicating that these ticks are now well established in the Fairfield Beach area. Shooting In Southport

Fairfield Police UPDATE: On Sunday June 19, 2022 at approximately 0015hrs the Fairfield Police Emergency Communications Center received several 911 calls reporting shots fired at Wafu, 3671 Post Road Southport. Westport Police also received several 911 calls reporting the same activity and sent officers to assist.First arriving officers from Fairfield and assisting officers from Westport found a large crowd dispersing from inside of the restaurant to the parking lot area. Employees from the restaurantreported hearing shots fired following the altercation however there were no gunshot victims found by police.
