Governor’s Statement On Stay of Deportation

#Hartford Governor Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement on the decision by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to grant a temporary stay to Salma Sikander of New Haven, who was scheduled to be deported to Bangladesh Thursday morning. “While this is undoubtedly good news for Salma and her family, it should never have gotten to this point. It should not have taken intervention from elected officials and hunger strikes from community activists for reason to prevail and for ICE to grant a temporary stay to a well-respected and valued member of the community. Welcome Home Firefighters!

#Westport CT-- How about some like to home our Deputy Chief along with (18) Connecticut firefighters. Returning last evening, Deputy Chief Kronick and members of the CT Wildfire Crew traveled out to Colorado at the end of July to help battle the blazing wildfires that have been crippling the region. The CT Interstate Fire Crew was deployed on the Buttermilk and Green Mountain Fires where thousands of acres were charred by the burning blazes. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection maintains a roster of staff and personnel from local fire departments who are certified to fight wildfires, which in turn allows Connecticut to participate in a reciprocal aid program operated by the U.S. Forest Service. Governor Orders Flags To Half Staff

HARTFORD, CT – Governor Dannel P. Malloy is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, July 28, 2018, in honor of U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. James Tyler Grotjan of Waterford, who died from injuries sustained while stationed overseas at Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates.  A funeral service in his remembrance is being held on Saturday in New London. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags – including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise – should also be lowered during this same duration of time. “Staff Sgt.
