First Pool of Mosquitoes in Stratford Test Positive for West Nile Virus

#Stratford, Connecticut - The Stratford Health Department announced that the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station reported Culex pipiens mosquitoes trapped at Beacon Point on July 19th, 2017 have tested positive for West Nile Virus. “This is about the time of year we see positive WNV-carrying mosquitos,” said Andrea Boissevain, Director of Health, “Take quick and easy steps to prevent exposure and bites like wearing long sleeves, especially at dawn and dusk and use insect repellent.” Christina Batoh, Stratford’s Environmental Conservation Administrator noted that the Town started treating for mosquitos in early June using a biological larvicide. “All 5,281 catch basins were treated. State Police Holiday Stats

Connecticut State Troopers are patrolling highways and roads in Connecticut over this 2017 Independence Day weekend. During this enforcement period, Troopers are utilizing both traditional and non-traditional patrol cars. The enforcement period started at 12:01 a.m. 06/30/17 and will run through 11:59 p.m. on 07/04/17. Troopers are focusing on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers, and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols are also in place for the entire weekend. Bridgeport News: Woman Steals Deliver Van Engaging In Pursuit

#Bridgeport CT-- Thursday, 6/29--Mercedes Bruno, 26, of 163 Catherine St., Bridgeport, allegedly stole a sprinter delivery van from Junco's Meat Market on Harral Avenue around 6:30am Thursday morning.  She lead police on pursuit on I-95 ending in North Haven after hitting state police cars as well as several Bridgeport Police cars.  The pursuit continued onto I-91 northbound when she struck another state police car near exit 12 which caused her to lose control of the van and she crashed into a light pole knocking it over and ending the pursuit.  She was lead away in handcuffs with no further incident.   Bruno was charged with two counts of assault on public safety personnel, two counts of criminal attempt to commit…

Bridgeport/Shelton’s Famed Gary DeCarlo Passes

I'm very sad to report that Connecticut's own Gary DeCarlo who wrote and performed the song Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” has passed.  Gary is a graduate of Bridgeport's Central High School and made Shelton his home.  The song which was probably played in nearly every sports stadium worldwide.  The song sold nearly eight million copies.  Gary has been battling cancer for over a year and passed in local hospice overnight.
