First Pool of Mosquitoes in Stratford Test Positive for West Nile Virus
#Stratford, Connecticut - The Stratford Health Department announced that the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station reported Culex pipiens mosquitoes trapped at Beacon Point on July 19th, 2017 have tested positive for West Nile Virus. “This is about the time of year we see positive WNV-carrying mosquitos,” said Andrea Boissevain, Director of Health, “Take quick and easy steps to prevent exposure and bites like wearing long sleeves, especially at dawn and dusk and use insect repellent.” Christina Batoh, Stratford’s Environmental Conservation Administrator noted that the Town started treating for mosquitos in early June using a biological larvicide. “All 5,281 catch basins were treated.
