Keno Coming To Connecticut

(HARTFORD, CT) – Today, the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) announced agreements between the state and the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes that would allow for Keno in the coming year. The accords re-affirm the state’s gaming compact with the tribes and were a necessary step to adhere to Public Acts 15-244 and 15-5. As part of the agreements, each tribe will receive 12.5% of gross operating revenues and tribes may also operate Keno within their reservation and be an authorized lottery retailer of the Connecticut Lottery Corporation. “These agreements are the result of productive and cooperative negotiations between the state and the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes and represents the next step forward in bringing Keno to the…

Cablevision’s New Owner Looking To Make Changes

Just after announcing his plans to acquire Cablevison by French owned Altice,  CEO Patrick Drahi announced at a Goldman Sachs investor conference he's looking to make changes and cuts to the company.  "I like to pay as little as I can,"  he said to the investors and "It's not about how many customers you have, it's about how much money you make."   He wants  to bring European cost structures to the U.S. cable industry.  The traditional cable bundle is under attack, as streaming services from Netflix, Youtube, Hulu and many others are digging in to cable's bottom line.   "There's at least $300 million in corporate overhead that can immediately be deleted," one conference attendee said.  Drahi said a no-frills management philosophy that…

Fairfield News: Arrest Mad In Car Break In’s

12:00am--#Fairfield CT--#Black Rock CT--Police nab a person wanted in car break in's catching him after a brief foot pursuit behind Michael Gennaro's Steakhouse at 238 Post Road.  The suspect was brought down after being tazed.  Sorry, this was the best photograph I was able get as the sergeant directed the patrol officer to block the scene with his police cruiser.  The suspect was transport to St. Vincent's Hospital to be treated for injuries prior to booking.  This may be connected to a break in at Lexus Pre-Owned vehicles on Commerce Drive. I know the sergeant wasn't talking and the Shift Commander was on the road so I'll check with Lt. Perez tomorrow.

Governor Boasts Drop In Unemployment

Office of the Governor press release:  #HARTFORD, CT – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements in response to the Connecticut Department of Labor’s “Labor Situation” report for August 2015, which showed several thousand jobs created last month.   The monthly report indicates that:   Connecticut saw a net increase of 3,200 new jobs during the month.  Though numbers may face adjustment next month,this represents the best year-over-year August job growth in the last ten years.  The 2015 July-August jobs period, seasonally adjusted, has proven to deliver the second most movement in the last decade.   The unemployment rate in the state dropped one-tenth of a percent to 5.3% (the national rate is…
