GOV. MALLOY ORDERS EXTENSION OF DMV DEADLINES FOR LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS (HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is ordering an extension of expiration dates for motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses due to the impending severe winter storm. The Governor’s action covers expiration dates and periods of validity for motor vehicle registrations, licenses, permits, certificates and other forms of credentials issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles and runs through January 30. Reps Concerned About Unemployment Taxes

HARTFORD – State Rep. Gail Lavielle (R-143) today expressed serious concerns about an increase in unemployment taxes that Connecticut employers will have to pay starting in 2015. The additional tax is designed to help the state pay off the more than $1 billion it borrowed from the federal government in 2009 to keep its unemployment compensation trust fund solvent. Connecticut is the only state where employers will have to pay this tax. GOV. MALLOY: STATE WINS GRANT TO MAKE SCHOOLS SAFER, HEALTHIER PLACES TO LEARN Additional Funds Awarded for School Emergency Operations Plans (HARTFORD, CT)— Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Connecticut has received two federal grants totaling more than $3.5 million to create safer, more nurturing environments in schools. Connecticut was one of 12 states out of more than 30 that applied to receive a School Climate Transformation grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.
