Stratford Health Department Announces Fall–Winter Flu Clinic Schedule

The Stratford Health Department today announced its upcoming Flu Clinic Schedule for October, November, December, and January as part of ongoing efforts to keep the community healthy throughout flu season. Clinics will be offered at multiple locations — Baldwin Center, Birdseye Municipal Complex, and Holy Name of Jesus — with both appointment-based and walk-in options. Pre-school clinics are also included in December and January to support families with young children.

Books Over Coffee — Fall–Winter 2025

The Stratford Library announced that its 50-plus-year “Books Over Coffee” program will continue in person through December 2025, with monthly Wednesday-at-noon discussions in the Lovell Room hosted by Linda LiDestri. The season opens September 17 with Mikki Brammer’s debut, The Collected Regrets of Clover, a life-affirming novel about a death doula who learns to reclaim her own life.

The series continues with Daphne DuMaurier’s gothic classic Rebecca on October 29, Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s Before the Coffee Gets Cold on November 19, and Elyssa Friedland’s The Floating Feldmans on December 17. Monday Matinees — Fall/Winter 2025

The Stratford Library will keep the big screen rolling with its “Monday Matinees” series, offering free, monthly noon showings of recent blockbusters in the Lovell Room through 2025. This fall/winter slate includes Jurassic World Rebirth (PG-13, 134 min) on September 15 and Sinners (R, 137 min) on October 13, followed by Superman (PG-13, 129 min) on November 17 and The Naked Gun (PG-13, 85 min) on December 8.

Sterling Community Center Hosts Annual Down & Dirty 5K at Short Beach

Stratford, CT – September 6, 2025 – The Sterling Community Center is proud to present its annual Down & Dirty 5K Obstacle Race at Stratford’s scenic Short Beach. This family-friendly event has become a beloved community tradition, drawing hundreds of participants from across the region to tackle an obstacle-filled course while raising critical funds to support Sterling’s youth programs and services.

Participants ages 8 and up will face 18 obstacles including mud pits, sand, climbing walls, and water challenges, with waves launching every 10 minutes from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Proceeds from the event benefit Sterling’s Youth Athletics, Financial Aid initiatives, and Resource Connection Food Pantry, including senior food delivery and the Food-4-Kids program.

“Each year, the Down & Dirty 5K brings our community together in an incredible display of teamwork, fun, and generosity,” said Annya White-Brown of Sterling Community Center. “This race is about more than getting muddy—it’s about ensuring every child has access to opportunities, while also supporting families in need through our community programs.”
