Westport, CT – Public Works Director Peter Ratkiewich announced that the town will host its Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Westport/Weston Health District, 180 Bayberry Lane. Collection will occur RAIN OR SHINE. Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service(WVEMS) will be offering two open houses for the public during the month of September.The local non-profit, founded in 1979, is excited to welcome the public into their headquarterson Saturday, September 15th from 3:00PM - 6:00PM or on Sunday, September 23rd from 3:00PM - 6:00PM. Their headquarters is located at 50 Jesup Road, Westport (also Westport Police Headquarters). Attendees can access the Open House from the ambulance bays, located behind the building. The open houses will allow community members and families to "drop-in" and learn about the WVEMS tradition of saving lives, which has been funded by donations for nearly 40 years. Fraudulent Firefighter Fundraiser

#Westport CT-- Recently the Westport Fire Department has received inquiries from several residents who were solicited by telephone for donations to the Westport Volunteer Fire Department. The caller identified themselves as representing the Fire Department Foundation. To our knowledge no such organization exists. The Westport Volunteer Fire Department & the Westport Uniformed Firefighters Charitable Foundation are two fundraising organizations within the Westport Fire Department. We are both registered with the IRS as nonprofit corporations and we do not contract with any third party to solicit donations by telephone. We only seek support from the members of the Westport community through an annual town-wide mailing, never through telephone solicitation. Westport, CT - The Westport Youth Commission and Westport Police Department will host a friendly game of Capture-the-Flag for Westport Middle School students on Sunday, September 16 at 3:30 pm on Jesup Green. Westport News: Firefighters Receive Fed Funding For Personal Escape System

#Westport CT--The Westport Fire Department received official notification that we have been awarded $28,814 in federal funding to purchase and outfit our firefighters with Personal Escape Systems. A Personal Escape System is an essential component of a firefighter’s personal protective gear and consists of an anchoring hook, a descent device, life safety rope or webbing, a carabiner and a storage/ deployment bag. These essential pieces of equipment become integrated into a firefighter’s gear by connecting to a harness worn in the protective bunker pants. The equipment purchased with this grant will provide our firefighters with a rapid and effective means of egress should they become trapped by fire and need to bail out of a window. Westport News: 2 Nabbed On Forgery/Identity Theft

#Westport CT--On 06/06/18, investigators were contacted by an employee of Toyota of Westport. The vendor who launders employee uniforms turned in a wallet located in the pocket of a pair of pants that had been cleaned. The wallet belonged to ex-employee, Deshawn Sawyer, but was found to contain two checks belonging to a Toyota customer. The investigator learned Sawyer had stolen the checks while he was working as a valet at Toyota. He would then provide them to a friend, Daishaun Murphy, who would deposit them into his account. The victim was contacted and reported another check had been stolen from her and deposited at TD Bank. The check was written out to Daishaun Murphy with “landscaping” noted in the…

Westport News: Squatter Arrested

On 09/03/18 at approximately 11:45am, officers were dispatched to a residence under construction on Wilton Road on a report of a burglary. The homeowner reported an unknown vehicle in the driveway and reported evidence of someone “squatting” inside the home. The vehicle was registered to Deshawn Harper of Bridgeport, CT. The officer had reason to believe the suspect had been inside the home upon his arrival. Items stolen from the property were observed inside the suspect vehicle and personal items belonging to Harper were located inside the residence. #Westport CT--The Westport Police Department is requesting assistance in identifying the two pictured individuals in connection with a larceny investigation. On August 16 th , 2018 at approximately 1:30pm, a victim reported her wallet was stolen from her purse while shopping. A short time later, several of her credit cards were fraudulently used in an attempt to make purchases in neighboring towns.   Anyone with information to assist in identifying these men is asked to call the Westport Detective Bureau at (203) 341-6080.
