#Westport CT-- On 09/23/2018 at approximately 5:30pm, Officer Ruta Pratt observed a vehicle traveling on Elm Street with no registration plate displayed. Officer Pratt initiated a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Violet Lane and found the vehicle bore an expired Rhode Island temporary registration, which was later determined to be fraudulent. While speaking with the occupants, she detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The operator was identified as Kirk Brodie, 28, of Bridgeport, CT who claimed ownership of the vehicle. A backup officer arrived on scene and spoke to passenger Mark Elliot, 25 of Bridgeport, CT. (Westport, CT)- On 09/24/2018 at approximately 3:15am, Corporal Kevin Smith observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the area of 877 Post Road East at a high rate of speed. He followed the vehicle and observed it stopped in the middle of the Post Road at the intersection with Long Lots Road with no tail lights illuminated. Corporal Smith caught up to the suspect vehicle and saw it stop at the red light at Roseville Road before it made a quick wide turn onto Roseville Road into the opposite lane of traffic. A registration check for the vehicle showed it had been stolen out of Darien on 09/19/2018. Corporal Smith attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, but the suspect…
Westport, CT - Director of Human Services Elaine Daignault announces the return of the American Job Center Southwest’s Career Coachat Westport Town Hall. On Thursday, October 11, the Coach will offer a class in beginner’s class in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 from 10 a.m. – noon, followed by an intermediate class in PowerPoint 2013 from 1 – 3 p.m. The Career Coach is a “training center” tour bus equipped with ten wireless computer labs offering free computer classes to residents in the greater Norwalk area. The mobile unit operates on a monthly schedule of visits to various community locations and is accessible to people with disabilities. Our newly designed patches are part of an innovative campaign that is comprised of over 2,675 other public safety agencies nationwide, designed to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer and to support breast cancer research organizations in combating this devastating disease. For the month of October, officers will be wearing uniform shirts with our pink patch to help spread awareness. #Westport CT--On 08/27/2018, the victim reported he was being harassed by John Colavito over a business dispute involving an annuity. Colavito and the victim had a meeting in July regarding the issue and since then, the victim reported to have received multiple emails and text messages from him. Colavito was found to have emailed the victim 54 times between 7/18/18 and 8/21/2018; 21 of which were sent in one day. Some of the emails were found to be threatening in nature. The investigating officer submitted an arrest warrant application for Colavito, which was later approved. On 09/20/2018, Colavito turned himself in at police headquarters on the active arrest warrant. He was charged with 53a-62 Threatening and 53a-183 Harassment 2 nd…
#Westport CT--On September 20, 2018, Westport Officers Scott Aliberti and Tyler Stevens graduated from the 361 st session of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) Police Academy. The graduation ceremony celebrating the completion of the 24 week program was held at Central Connecticut State University. Officers Aliberti and Stevens, along with their 45 classmates, resided at the POSTC Academy in Meriden since April. For 24 weeks, they learned the laws of Connecticut, became certified Emergency Medical Responders and gained skills needed to be a law enforcement officer. Officers Aliberti and Stevens now return to the Westport Police Department to begin their field training program.
