#Westport Connecticut--In November of 2016, the victim of this incident filed a larceny from her vehicle report. The victim stated her vehicle was parked and unoccupied in the parking lot of Assumption Church at 11 Burr Road on November 15 th , 2016. The Assumption Church parking lot is in close proximity to the Saugatuck Elementary School parking lot, which is located on Riverside Avenue. On 11/19/2016, the victim read an article regarding an arrest made by Westport police of a motor vehicle break in at Saugatuck Elementary School. Westport News: Bad Check Arrest

#Westport Connecticut--In September of 2016, Kyle Ritchie issued 2 checks to the victims of this incident. The checking account did not have sufficient funds to pay the checks, which totaled approximately 4,500.00. The victims and the police attempted several times to have Ritchie pay the owed amount which he did not. An arrest warrant was submitted to Norwalk Court for Ritchie’s arrest. On 01/30/17, Ritchie turned himself in for the active warrant. He was transported to Norwalk Court , 01/30/17, after being processed.

December of 2016, the victim of this incident came to police headquarters to file a Larceny complaint. The victim noticed checks were written and signed in her name from her checking account, but she did not write them. The checks totaled $500.00. The victim suspected her housekeeper as no one else had access to the home. Westport Officers observed the video surveillance from the People’s Bank in Bridgeport where one of the checks was cashed. The officers were able to positively identify Olga Rincon as the woman cashing the forged check. A warrant was then submitted to Norwalk Court for Rincon’s arrest. 2017 Westport Youth Citizens’ Police Academy

#Westport Connecticut-- The Westport Police Department is proud to announce that we will be offering a Citizens’ Police Academy for Westport teens beginning on March 1, 2017. Participants will establish a better understanding of the role of the police department in the community and laws effecting teens. The academy can accommodate up to twenty-four Westport high school students who will participate in classes designed to take them through the various aspects of law enforcement. Academy instructors consist of highly trained and experienced Westport Police Officers. In addition to the classes, participants will have the opportunity to experience a “ride-a- long” with an officer from the patrol division. Westport News: Recalled Range Top Explodes

#Westport Connecticut--This morning the Westport Fire Department responded to a reported stove fire out along with an explosion. Upon arrival, fire personnel found that the resident had attempted to turn on the propane supplied kitchen range-top and immediately a small gas explosion occurred beneath the unit. This explosion was likely the result of a failure or leak in the unit. Quick action of the resident to shut off the burner control prevented further damage, luckily no injuries occurred. Range-top parts and cabinetry had been strewn about the kitchen. The Consumer Product Safety Commission was notified of the incident by the Fire Marshal’s Office, who found the gas range-top had been recalled in 2011. On 01/19/17 at approximately 1:00am, Westport Officer Casimiro stopped a vehicle on Post Road East near Compo Road for a license plate that did not belong on the vehicle. The operator, Donald Potter, was unable to produce a license, proper registration or valid insurance. Due to the fact that Potter did not have a license or any other photo identification, he was taken into custody. Potter was processed and charged with the above listed charges. He is assigned a court date of 1/30/17 at Norwalk Court. Once the Officers were able to confirm Potter identity, he was released on a Promise to Appear in Court. Westport News: Drug Charges

On January 17, 2017 at approximately 12:00am, Westport Officers responded to the area of Post Road East and Compo Road on a report of a disabled vehicle at the intersection. Officers located a vehicle stopped in the travel portion of the roadway. The operator, later identified as Noura Yousef, was asleep in the driver’s seat. Officers were able to wake up Yousef, who appeared to be disoriented and possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Officers observed several glass pipes in plain view as they interviewed Yousef. The pipes observed are commonly used for smoking crack cocaine or other narcotic substances. Westport News: Energy Drinks Theft Arrest

On 09/21/16 at approximately 6:30pm, Westport Officers were dispatched to 1790 Post Road East, Stop and Shop, on a larceny complaint. Loss Prevention had the suspect, Louis Bottone, in custody. Bottone was arrested that day for stealing energy drinks. Officers were informed that Bottone was suspected of stealing $111.91 worth of energy drinks on 09/06/16. Officers viewed the surveillance footage from 09/06/16 and positively identified Bottone as the suspect. A warrant was submitted to Norwalk Court for the larceny committed on the 6th . On 01/14/17, Westport Officers responded to the Monroe Police Department to take custody of Bottone. He was processed for the above listed charge and has a court date on 01/19/17.
