Westport News: Brush Fire

2:30pm--#Westport Connecticut-- Westport Firefighters were dispatched at 2:30 PM to the Merritt Parkway Southbound between exits 41-40 to assist Norwalk Firefighters at a brush fire. Engine 2, Engine 6 and Car 3 responded. Westport Firefighters arrived on scene and found an approximate 300’x 100’ area burning in the area of the West Rocks overpass with Norwalk Firefighters already on scene. Westport Firefighters worked along with Norwalk Firefighters to extinguish the fire. A total of 3 lines were stretched and operated. Crews remained on scene checking for hot spots and overhauling. The CSP was on scene and provided traffic control. The last Westport Fire unit cleared the scene at 3:42 PM. (Westport Fire Department Press Release)

Westport News: Chief Makes Fraudulent Credit Card Arrest

On 02/23/17, Chief Foti Koskinas observed a vehicle in the Greens Farms Railroad Station parking lot with the blinker on, engine running and operator laid back. The Chief checked on the operator, and as the window rolled down, he immediately smelled the odor of marijuana. Other units were called to the scene and the operator was asked out of the car. The operator, Lorenzo Woods, was evasive and unable to explain why he was there. While speaking with Woods, another male approached the Officers. The second male was identified as Theophilus Brown.   The Officers determined that the two males were attempting to cash a fraudulent money order worth $1,000.00 at the Post Office. Westport News: Home Improvement Without Registration

In early October of 2016, the victim of this incident signed a proposal with contractor Jeffrey Chirillo of Chirillo Contracting, for remodeling work. The victim paid Chirillo $32,579.00 in cash and checks since 10/08/16. As of mid-January, Chirillo has not started any work at the victim’s residence nor has he provided any of the material the victim has paid him for. Based on the investigation, a warrant was submitted to Norwalk Court for Chirillo’s arrest. On 2/23/2017, Westport Officers responded to the Milford Police Department and took Jeffrey Chirillo into custody. Chirillo was transported to Westport Police Headquarters where he was processed for the above listed charges. Chirillo was held on a $75,000.00 bond with a court date of 03/07/17.…

Westport News: Minecraft To Tell A Story

Toquet Hall Teen Center announces an after school class in video game puppetry to be held March 27 through March 31from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.  Registration is open to students in grades 7-12. Led by the EK Theater (www.ektheater.com), students will learn how to use Minecraft to tell "The Story of Aoyagi" from Lafcadio Hearn's Kwaidan, a collection of Japanese ghost stories first published in 1904.   The program has a registration fee of $45 and space is limited. Westport News: Traffic Stop Nets Numerous Charges

#Westport Connecticut--On 02/10/17 at approximately 4:30pm, Westport Officer David Scinto observed a gray Mercedes sedan traveling south on Myrtle Avenue with cancelled registration plates that belong on a Volvo. The vehicle was stopped, and the operator was identified as George Wilson. A check of Wilson showed his driving privileges were suspended. Wilson also had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Troop G, State Police. Wilson was taken into custody and processed for the above listed charges. Wilson was issued a court date of 02/21/2017 at Norwalk Court. Wilson posted the $7,500 bond and was released. (Westport Police Press Release)

Firefighter James “Doc” Branson, who recently returned from a 375 day deployment to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with the United State Marines as an advisor with Security Cooperation Team-Jordan. The Westport Fire Department celebrated his return by taking down the “Blue Star Flag” which flew at Westport Fire Headquarters during his time overseas. Westport News: Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 6 th degree

#Westport Connecticut--In October of 2016, Westport Officers were dispatched to CVS Pharmacy, 397 Post Road East, on a report of a Larceny. A witness observed a male leave the store with 2 or 3 boxes of what looked to be expensive oral  roothbrushes. The male then got into the passenger side of a vehicle which then drove out of the back of the lot. The witness found this suspicious so she wrote down the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle. The witness also noticed a female driving the suspect vehicle. Upon reviewing the surveillance footage, Officers observed the suspect, Nabeel Abdallah, take several boxes out of the store without paying.
