#Westport News:  On August 10, 2016, Westport Officers responded to a Cricket Lane address to assist in the recovery of a motor vehicle that had been taken without the owner’s permission. While on scene, Officers observed that a window pane on the front door was shattered and there were pry marks by the door knob. The homeowner was contacted and he stated that the damage to the door was new. The homeowner said that no one should be at the residence, but advised that his adult son, Ian Parker, may have entered. He requested that Officers check the inside of the home. Officers knocked on the door but no one responded. As Officers were making entry, Ian Parker came to door. Westport News: Tips Stolen

#Westport Connecticut--On 7-31- 16 at approximately 08:30am, Westport Officers were dispatched to the SoNo Baking Company which is located at 44 Church Lane on a report of a larceny and threatening incident. A male suspect had threatened the cashier, stole money out of the tip jar, and fled the scene on a bicycle. Officers located a male matching the description at the Gillespie Center on Jesup Road. The male, identified as Dave Phillips, stated he used the money he stole to buy cigarettes. Westport’s Newest K-9

The Westport Police Department proudly announces the addition of Police Service Dog (PSD) Atlas as the newest member of the Westport Police Department K9 Unit. PSD Atlas is a 19 month old German shepherd who was acquired from Grasso Shepherds and will be handled by Officer David Scinto. The team is set to begin training this month with an expected certification as a patrol / narcotics detection canine in October. Officer Scinto and Atlas will join Officer Jim Loomer & PSD Koda and Officer Baker & PSD Chase in the K9 Unit. In response to the recent increase in drug abuse and heroin overdoses in the area, adding “Atlas” as a third narcotic detection K9 better enables the department to enforce current drug laws. Westport’s Back To School Program

Sarah Heath, Director of the Westport Department of Human Services, announced today that the Town’s 2016 “Back to School Program” will start Monday, August 8 at Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue. This program offers gift cards to income-eligible families who have children in the Westport schools. Families can then purchase new backpacks and school supplies together. The Salvation Army also provides a limited number of Payless gift cards so children can start the school year with a new pair of shoes.  The Back to School program depends solely upon the generosity of community individuals and organizations. Last year, 152 Westport students from 102 income-eligible families received back to school supplies as well as gift cards for a new pair of school shoes. That represents…

2016 Westport Citizens’ Police Academy

The Westport Police Department is proud to announce that we will be offering a Citizens’ Police Academy starting on September 8, 2016. Participants will establish a better understanding of the role of the police department in the community. The academy can accommodate up to twenty-four community members who will participate in classes designed to take them through the various aspects of law enforcement. Academy instructors consist of highly trained and experienced Westport Police Officers. In addition to the classes, participants will have the opportunity to experience a “ride-a-long” with an officer from the patrol division. They will also receive CPR/AED certification. Class participants will meet every Thursday from evening 7:00pm- 9:30 pm for nine weeks to learn about the different divisions and specialized units of the department as well…

Grease Is The Word In Westport

On 07/18/16 at approximately 10:00am, Westport Officers were dispatched to the rear of Five Guys Restaurant on a report of theft of cooking oil. Responding units were given a description of the suspect vehicle as a white van with New York license plates. Upon the Officers arrival, they found suspects Alondra Aracil and Jonathan Garces actively siphoning cooking oil from the tank. Aracil and Garces were taken into custody. Aracil gave a fake name and date of birth which resulted in the additional charge of Criminal Impersonation. (Westport Police Press Release)

Westport News: Larceny

In April of 2016, Westport Officers were dispatched to Stop and Shop, 1790 Post Road East, on a report of shoplifting. A female was caught on video surveillance placing beer and energy drinks into her cart, then leaving the store without paying. Officers were able to identify the female as Nickie Thompson because she committed the same crime in Bridgeport. A warrant was submitted to court for Larceny 6 th degree. On 06/21/16, Officers responded to the Milford Police Department and took custody of Thompson for the active warrant. She was also processed for a Failure to Appear warrant and held on a $10,000.00.
