Bridgeport News: Building Struck By Car
2020-03-16@2:20pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Hair Express at 2186 Madison Avenue was hit by a car, breaking the windows and some of the brick facade. The building inspector was called to inspect the building.
Gathering Restrictions
In in coordination with governors from New York and New Jersey, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 with guidance provided by US Centers for Disease Control, Governor Ned Lamont has issued the following: Restrict gatherings of more than 50 people. Order the closure of Connecticut restaurants, bars, gyms and movie theaters. Restaurants and bars will be allowed to continue food delivery and takeout. Supermarkets, pharmacies, gas stations and other essential businesses will remain open. This State mandate will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, March 16th, and remain in effect until further notice. Stratford St. Patrick Festivities Cancelled
#STRATFORD – The previously scheduled St. Patrick’s Day Festivities at Stratford Town Hall have been canceled out of consideration of the COVID-19 public health emergency. The event, which comprises of a raising of the Irish flag at Town Hall, the naming of the Irish Mayor for the Day, and reception and Irish Soda Bread Competition had originally been scaled back just to the outdoor portion, but out of an abundance of caution, the full event has now been canceled. Bridgeport News: City Offices Closing – With Pay
Mayor Ganim announces that on Monday, March 16, 2020, all City of Bridgeport government buildings will be closed and nonessential services will be suspended with offices and buildings closed until further notice. This closure excludes police and fire services, 911 dispatch, as well as sanitation and recycling pick up. This announcement is out of an abundance of caution to minimize social distancing in an effort to protect staff and residents from the contraction of COVID-19. Rowena White, city spokesperson said this will be treated similarly to a Snow Emergency Day, so it is paid time off. Bridgeport News: Garage Fire
Assistant Bridgeport Fire Chief Michael Caldaroni said that firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire located in rear of 1015 Madison Av. First unit reported smoke showing from the rear. The fire was quickly knocked down. No injuries occurred and no one was inside the garage at the time of fire. The Gas Co was called to respond. There was some extension to the building but firefighters quick response put the blaze out before it became a real problem.
