Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim and the Bridgeport Department of Public Facilities today are reminding residents of the Christmas tree pickup guidelines to support the city’s recycling efforts. Every year, the trees that are collected are brought to the city landfill to be repurposed as mulch for the 48 parks throughout Bridgeport. To aid the city’s recycling efforts, residents are required to place trees curbside by 6:00 a.m. on Recycling Day which occurs biweekly. Christmas tree collection will begin on Monday, January 7th and continue until Friday, February 1st. The City of Bridgeport is asking residents not to place Christmas trees curbside before Monday, January 7th to avoid safety hazards. #Westport CT-- On 12/25/2018 at approximately 1:00am, an officer observed two young men getting on and off of the northbound train multiple times, while it was stopped at the Saugatuck Station. At one point, the young men got off of the train with a bicycle before re-boarding. The officer left the Saugatuck Station and traveled to the Greens Farms Station where he saw the same two individuals again in the train station parking lot. One of the individuals was determined to be a juvenile and the other identified as Jeffrey Pierre, 18, of Bridgeport. Westport K-9 Gets Body Armor

#Westport Police Department’s K9 Onyx has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Family and Friends of John Buffone and embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of John Buffone - Beloved husband and Dad”. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. Westport Police Nab Burglary Suspect

#Westport, CT - On 12/23/2018, officers responded to a Sandhopper Trail address on the report of a burglary. The victim reported her vehicle and residence, both of which had been unlocked, were entered between 1:00 am and 5:00 am while the residents were home sleeping. A purse containing credit cards and cash were stolen from the victim’s vehicle. A computer and backpack were stolen from the living room. One of the victim’s credit cards was used later that morning at McDonald's and Sunoco in Norwalk. The total value of items taken was estimated to be one thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars ($1,850.00).
