Governor Signs Education Mandate Relief Bill Into Law
State Representative Gail Lavielle (R-143), The Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Education Committee, applauded today’s news that Governor Dannel Malloy had signed her education mandate relief bill into law. Rep. Lavielle authored the bill, HB 7276, with input from multiple superintendents, Board of Education members, and education advocates in order to provide local school districts relief from cumbersome unfunded mandates imposed by the state. Advocating for the bill throughout this year’s session, she assembled a bipartisan list of 62 cosponsors, and it eventually passed 126-23 in the House and unanimously in the Senate. 12:44pm--#Fairfield CT-- Police are suspecting a medical condition that caused this elderly woman to lose control of her car taking down a street sign and bouncing off a retaining wall twice before coming to a stop almost a block away. The accident took place on Jennings Road at Apponyi Street.
11:30am--#Westport, CT On Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at approximately 11:30 am officers responded to the intersection of Post Road East and Westfair Drive on a report of a serious motor vehicle accident with injuries. Investigation of this incident will necessitate an extended closure of the roadway. At the time of this writing, Post Road East is completely closed to traffic between the intersections of Maple Avenue and Bulkley Avenue. Traffic delays on Post Road East and the surrounding areas should be expected as a result of this closure. This traffic pattern is subject to change as the investigation continues, however, motorists should use Long Lots Road and/or Greens Farms Road as alternate routes around the accident scene.
