Bridgeport, Conn. (July 12, 2015) – Today, Mayor Bill Finch announced the opportunity for Bridgeport families to sign-up for free or low-cost, high-quality pre-K right in their neighborhood.   The programs are open to Bridgeport children who will turn 4-years-old Jan. 1, 2016 and whose family’s household income qualifies.   Last month,  Mayor Finch, Bridgeport Superintendent of Schools Fran Rabinowitz, and the United Way launched a universal pre-K initiative aimed at ensuring every kid in Bridgeport is prepared to enter kindergarten.   The Mayor and Superintendent announced the initiative at the annual meeting of the Bridgeport Alliance for Young Children.   After adding 366 new slots in the last year, more than 90 percent of three and four year olds…

Bridgeport News: Birth Incident At Walgreens

1:52am--#Bridgeport CT--Prayers for the mother and child.  EMS was called to the ladies room at Walgreen's on North and Main Street for a possible child birth or miscarriage.  There is blood everywhere according to radio reports.  No child or fetus was found.   A black woman in a white top was seen running down Tom Thumb Street.  I doubt I will get any updates on this tonight. Bridgeport News: Hit & Run Driver Tries To Flee

2:52am--#Bridgeport CT--Report of a truck hitting a pole in front of the BMW dealership at 43 North Avenue and the driver is trying to flee.  Reports say citizens are holding down the driver and utility pole is down in the middle of North Avenue.  This picture was taken just past Capitol Avenue on North Avenue.  The collision took place in front of the BMW Dealership near Boston Avenue.  Popeye's Chicken continued to provide drive up service despite having no power.   Always first on DoingItLocal.com.  No need for an expensive cable subscription to get your local news!
