Westport E-mail Scam
Westport CT- The Westport Police were advised by the first Selectman’s Office early this morning that a resident had received an email purportedly from the Town of Westport requesting that he update his credit card information to facilitate online payments made to the town. The resident questioned the validity of the email and an investigation discovered that it was not affiliated in any way with the Town of Westport and appears to be an attempt to obtain Credit Card information from individuals. These type of emails is referred to commonly as a “Phishing email”. At this point police are attempting to locate the origins of the email and are reminding residents that the Town has never and does not request financial or personal information in unsolicited emails.
