Video Report: Four years ago, two of Bridgeport's Heroes passed fighting a fire at 41 Elmwood Avenue on a extremely hot Saturday. Lt. Steven Velasquez and Firefighter Michel Baik were on the third-floor checking for hot spots when they sent mayday signals back to dispatch. The Rapid Intervention Team was dispatched, but it was too late, the two had passed. The last time the department lost a member was in 1999, when Walter Flyntz died in a fire on Fairfield Avenue.
