First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that Moody’s Investors Service has re-affirmed
the Town’s Aaa coveted rating and stable outlook. Moody’s has assigned the Town with an Aaa
rating to Fairfield’s $37.6 million of General Obligation Bonds, Issue of 2012 and a MIG 1 to
$12.1 million of General Obligation Bond Anticipation Notes.

According to Moody’s report, which was issued to the Town on June 26, 2012, “Moody’s has
also re-affirmed the Aaa rating on $192.2 million of outstanding general obligation unlimited
tax debt. The outlook on all bonds is stable. The bonds and the notes are secured by the town’s
general obligation unlimited tax pledge. Proceeds from the bonds will be used to permanently
refinance maturing BANs and towards financing the completion of the new Fairfield Metro
North train station and other school and town improvements. Proceeds from the notes will be
used to refinance maturing notes.”

Moody’s rationale for reaffirming the stable outlook reflects “significant improvement to
General Fund reserves and marked progress toward curing a long standing deficit in the town’s
Internal Service Fund (ISF) which Moody’s expects to continue over the medium term. Future
rating reviews will continue to consider the town’s maintenance of satisfactory General Fund
reserves and ability to fully fund its internal service obligations.”

Just after 2:15 Saturday morning an SUV traveling down South Avenue lost control and slammed into a utility pole catching fire. Jonathan Sadowy was walking home after having a late night meal at the diner down the street when he came upon the crash. Police radio transmissions as well as witnesses told us that flames were coming from the engine compartment as high as eight to ten feet, fearing it might spread to two homes close to where the car came to a rest. Jonathan jumped into action and went to the car to see if he could help. A woman inside the car was unresponsive. With the vehicle on fire Jonathan pulled the woman from the car across the street to safety. He then went to help the man who was already out of the vehicle when he returned. Jonathan was unaware of the dangers of the downed power lines during his rescue. They resuscitating the woman until first responsders arrived. Firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze. Both the driver and passenger were transported to the hospital. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.

Just before 8pm Friday night Fairfield first responders received a call of a kayaker in distress about a mile off Penfield Beach.  One kayaker did come to the man’s aid but had trouble bringing him ashore.  Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola told us that his assistant Firefighter McDaniel, a former Coast Guard member was able to raise a small Coast Guard vessel on the radio, that happened to be working  in the area.  The two men appear to be in good condition after being in the water for over an hour, maybe slightly dehydrated.   They were taken ashore on board the Fairfield Police Boat.

A Seattle breast cancer survivor whose breasts were surgically removed has gained the permission to swim topless at a city pool.  But Jodi Jaecks wants to make sure her privilege is also extended to other breast cancer survivors who want to swim comfortably.  Full story here……

BRIDGEPORT — An unidentified man in his 60s was stabbed in the abdomen and hand Friday afternoon on a city bus, police said.The incident took place at about 12:45 p.m. at the corner of Washington Avenue and Catherine Street.  Connecticut Post has the full story here…..

The sweltering temperatures and high humidity didn’t stop Fairfield Warde’s 327 students from graduating. The ceremony was moved along with shortened speeches and no introductions. Cooling areas and water was at the ready and many took advantage of them. Smiles among the students and family were plentiful and the emotions ran high. Congratulations Class of 2012!

Around 7pm the first call went out for a fire at the abandoned factories at Hancock and Railroad Avenue.   The site has seen its share of fires over the winter but this time it affected three of the buildings.  Several firefighters were overcome with heat exhaustion and by the acidic smoke.  Two firefighters have been hospitalized due to heat exhaustion.  Trains passing were slowed to a crawl while traveling through the area.  The mayor’s office has been recommending residents to keep their windows closed to keep smoke from entering their homes. Shelton, Easton, Fairfield and Trumbull are few of the fire companies that provided mutual aid in fighting this fire.

Bill Sheppard, a Army veteran returned home after serving his country to find his former job was no available due to the economy.   He had trouble finding work and started a lawn care business with a push mower.   The veteran put up his metals on E-Bay to raise money for better lawn equipment.   The only bids he got was dozens of calls and e-mails offering assistance.  Fox News DC has the full story here…….

Just before 3pm first responders came to the aid of two teens on bike that were hit by a car on Old Post Road near Belmont Street. Witnesses tell me there was a third teen but he panicked and fled the scene. The teens on the bike were taken by emergency medical technicians by American Medical Response. The injuries did not appear to be life threatening. Police are investigating.

1:08pm–Fairfield–Harbor Road resident has tractor roll over him and has puncture wounds, tractor is no longer on him.  Police, fire and EMTs on the way.

12:00am–#Bridgeport #ctfire — Fire on the exterior of the home on Rockton Ave. extinguished by homeowner. Firefighters checking for extensions into the home.  UPDATE–Police are looking  for a a black male who apparently started the fire and  fled on foot towards Main Street.  UPDATE–4 black males six feet tall with no shirts on responsible for setting the fire, fled in a black Landrover or Rangefinder.

10:22pm–Fairfield Homeowner reporting smoke inside their home at 55 Duka Ave. Fire department on scene reporting a light smoke condition in the home, possibly caused by a candle.

10:21pm–Bridgeport–Report of a man having a seizure while driving and crashed into a pole at Evers and Huntington Turnpike.

10:17pm–Bridgeport–Fire department on scene at Fairfield Ave. and Beachview for a dumpster fire at Clearview Inc. Fire extinguished but they want to check inside the building to see if it extended in. Reports of lots of embers on the roof.

4:24pm–Bridgeport–Fire boats on the way for a stranded jet skier approximately 1 mile from the Columbus statue off Seaside Park. UPDATE–Jet skier was brought in by another jet skier, police boat brought the jet ski in. AMR requested to evaluate the boater.

4:00pm–#Bridgeport–Old Town Road near Park Ave. is CLOSED due to a roll over car accident.

3:30pm–Bridgeport–Fairfield Police assist in water rescue at St. Mary’s By The Sea. 2 children were pulled from the water by their mother with no injury.

3:14pm–Fairfield–Two children riding on one bicycle struck by a car. Police, fire and EMTs on the way.
