TOWN OF STRATFORD TO DISTRIBUTE COVID-19 TESTS TO RESIDENTS TOMORROW AT SHORT BEACH

#STRATFORD – Mayor Laura R. Hoydick has announced plans for distribution in Stratford of COVID-19 test kits that the Town has received as part of the rapid-test kits being distributed to Connecticut towns and cities by order of Governor Ned Lamont.

Kits will be made available to Stratford at one distribution point at Short Beach. As the number of kits available will be insufficient to cover everyone in town, they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Based on CT Department of Health recommendations to limit the number of tests made available per household, the Stratford distribution sites will distribute a maximum of one kit per car. Each kit contains two tests.

The kits will be made available from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5th, at the following location:

·      Short Beach Parking Lot – 1 Dorne Drive, Stratford

Tests will be available only to Stratford residents and distributed through drive-up. Residents should be prepared to demonstrate residency, either through a Town-issued beach sticker, license or identification card, or a utility bill. Those who have received kits through the school system today are asked not to come again tomorrow for more test kits. Residents will be directed through the drive-up by staff. Everyone in vehicles coming through the drive-up should remain masked the entire time.

Households will have additional opportunities to receive test kits in the coming days as more test kits are made available through the Town, the school system and Federally-Qualified Health Centers.

Residents should note that there continues to be sites available in Stratford for COVID-19 tests, including DeLuca Field parking lot every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (closed Friday Dec. 31st). You can register here: https://coronatestct.com.

Drive-through testing is also available at DOCS Urgent Care Center, 200 East Main Street (Appointments can be made here: https://docsmedicalgroup.com/docsurgentcare/book-appointment-locations/) and at CVS Pharmacy at 1 Hawley Lane (Appointments can be made at http://www.cvs.com ).

CITY OF BRIDGEPORT TO DISTRIBUTE MORE THAN 15,000 TAKE HOME COVID TESTS TO RESIDENTS AND PARTNER AGENCIES

The Bridgeport EOC picked up the designated shipment of 15,837 COVID “at home tests” along with 48,000 N95 masks provided by the State of CT. The City of Bridgeport will be distributing more than 15,000 Take Home COVID Tests to residents and partner agencies tomorrow as part of the continued effort to decrease long lines and provide individuals with COVID tests.

On Thursday, December 29th the EOC announced a city portal available to members of the public in need of a COVID test. Residents and city agencies were successful at logging in online or calling the EOC to register for their COVID Test. The portal is currently closed as the allocation of supplies was quickly exhausted. Those receiving the kits are persons identified as exposed or symptomatic, have underlying health conditions and within our high positivity areas of the City.

The EOC and Health Department will facilitate the distribution of the 15,000+ At-Home Tests tomorrow at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater. Only persons with a confirmation from the city will be provided with a test.

As we see long wait lines and individuals receiving false positive test results, Health and Emergency Management officials thought it important to remind or educate residents on When To Test For COVID:

If you have COVID symptoms; common cold, headache, fever, chills. 5 days after you were exposed.Infection may not be detected if you test before the 5th day after an exposure.
As a reminder, COVID testing continues to be available at multiple locations throughout Bridgeport. A complete list of city and state testing sites can be found at GetTestedBPT.com and here:

Stratford News: INITIAL SUPPLY OF COVID-19 RAPID TEST KITS TO BE MADE AVAILABLE TO SCHOOL SYSTEM

#STRATFORD – After the State of Connecticut’s initial plan to distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits through municipal governments fell apart last week, a new shipment of different rapid test kits is now expected to arrive in Stratford Monday morning, January 3rd.  The planned shipment is of 7,700 test kits.  Neighboring communities have been issued single-test kits, and the type of kit will be confirmed tomorrow upon delivery.

As more test kits will be made available in the near future, the decision has been made jointly between Mayor Laura Hoydick and her administration and Stratford Schools Superintendent Dr. Uyi Osunde to distribute this initial shipment to the school system.

“There is a tremendous demand for these rapid test kits right now, and with cases surging and many students, teachers and administrators quarantining or testing positive as school is set to re-open for the new year, we have made the decision that this first shipment should go to the school system,” said Mayor Hoydick

“Since the beginning of the school year, Mayor Hoydick and her team have demonstrated support for the Stratford Public Schools. This is another example of the continued support and clearly illustrates the value and importance placed on having our children and staff return safely,” said Dr. Osunde

After communicating with District leaders and principals today, Dr. Osunde announced in an email communication to parents and staff that Monday and Tuesday of this week would be used as “Inclement Weather Days” in consideration of staffing challenges, allowing ongoing quarantines and tests to be completed.

School families will be notified directly through their districts and principals about the availability of the initial supply of rapid test kits, and when and where they can be obtained.

“We are looking forward to the next supply of rapid test kits as we know there are many anxious residents who need them,” said Mayor Hoydick.  “As we continue to get more information about subsequent supplies of tests and masks, we will make that information available to the public.  I look forward to collaborating with the Superintendent and the School system going forward.”
