DMV Closing

 Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Commissioner Sibongile Magubane announced effective as of the close of business on March 17, 2020, all DMV Branch Offices will be closed to the public for the transaction of business until further notice. Employees will continue to report to their work locations, unless otherwise instructed, and will assist with transactions that are completed online, through the mail and by phone through Interactive Voice Recognition.  DMV partners, including AAA and Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union, will make independent determinations of whether to conduct license transactions. Bridgeport News: Train Brake Fire

2020-03-17@1:17pm--#Bridgeport CT-- A train carrying about 15 people had to make an emergency stop at Bishop Avenue near Connecticut Avenue after a report of a fire which turned out the be the brakes.  Firefighters were able to put the fire out using dry chemical extinguishers.  There were no reported injuries.  A rescue train was dispatched to complete the passenger's journey.

Trumbull police are warning residents to be aware of scams related to the recent health crisis occurring worldwide. There have been several unverified reports throughout the country of people posing as personnel from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and going door-to-door, allegedly conducting a coronavirus (COVID- 19) survey or investigation. The Trumbull Police Department would like to make it known that the CDC is not conducting any such survey or investigation. Residents should not grant anyone access into their residence whom they do not know, or who were not previously scheduled to be there. In an effort to minimize Bridgeport Hospital’s COVID-19 exposure and to ensure proper testing of patients that have received a physician’s order and that have a scheduled appointment Bridgeport Hospital (Yale New Haven Health) will be activating Specimen Collection Center for COVID-19. HARTFORD, CT)- Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz is reminding Connecticut residents to check their mailboxes for an invitation to complete the 2020 Census. Beginning tomorrow, March 12, 2020, initial invitations to respond to the census online and by phone will be delivered by the U.S. Postal Service to households across the state. Areas that are less likely to respond online will receive a paper questionnaire along with the invitation to respond online or over the phone. This is the beginning of the self-response operation. Westport News: Tires and Rims Theft Arrest

#Westport CT-- On the morning of December 16, 2019, Robert Mebane was involved in an incident that occurred at Honda of Westport; 1372 Post Road East. At that time, Mebane was suspected of attempting to steal wheels and tires from vehicles parked in the lot of the closed business. He was arrested for multiple charges. As a continuation of that initial investigation, a search warrant was sought and granted for a vehicle found near the scene believed to belong to Mebane. During the course of the execution of that search warrant, detectives located two Connecticut registration marker plates that had previously been reported to police as stolen. Bridgeport News: Neighbors Rescue Neighbors From Burning Home

2020-03-16@8:10pm--#Bridgeport CT—Firefighters were called to a fire at 316 Linwood Avenue. While on the way to the fire they were told that people were running into the building to rescue people inside the burning multi-family home. I caught up with Richiez Aneury who lives across the street. He said he heard people screaming, so he and his brother grabbed their portable dry chemical fire extinguishers and ran across to help. He said other neighbors also went to knock on doors and help get people out of the burning building.
