Norwalk Detectives Arrest Suspect in Financial Crimes Investigation

In October 2025, the Norwalk Police Department Detective Bureau began a financial crimes investigation involving a company that was the victim of a business email compromise scam. The scam caused changes in bank wiring instructions and the diversion of a large sum of money to a bank in Washington rather than to the contractor's bank account. Through a lengthy investigation, multiple search and seizure warrants, and working closely with the contractor and multiple banks, a suspect was identified as Matthew Patterson. The majority of the funds were frozen, seized, and returned. An arrest warrant was obtained for Matthew Patterson. Robbery Investigation Leads to Arrest and Firearm Recovery

On February 28, 2026, at 12:22 PM, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a report of a robbery in the area of 81 Winfield Street. The caller reported that during a scheduled meeting to sell clothing, the other individual used force and displayed a handgun. Norwalk Patrol Officers responded to the scene and determined that both the victim and the suspect were juveniles. The investigation revealed that the victim and suspect had arranged the sale of the clothing through Snapchat. When the meeting took place, the suspect attempted to pay with counterfeit currency, which led to an altercation. Body Recovered From Water At Norwalk Docks

On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 9:14 AM, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a male in the water at 50 Water Street. Officers from the Norwalk Police Department Patrol Division, along with the Department’s Marine Unit, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, patrol officers located an adult male in the water at the boating docks behind 50 Water Street. The individual was determined to be deceased at the time he was located. Detectives from the Norwalk Police Department Detective Bureau, assisted by the Marine Unit, subsequently recovered the individual from the water.
