1:58pm–#Fairfield CT–A Lakeview Court resident called police that a sign on Black Rock Turnpike was “offensive” to him.  The sign was for a gun safety class hosted by Safe and Secure Training (SafeandSecureTraining.com).  The sign was taken down by police.    I interviewed First Selectman Micahel Tetreau about this back in July of 2014.  He said  “We value the look of our community” and that the signs are in fact illegal but “We don’t have the labor to enforce it as much as we like”.    A year later if you look around town you will still see the same street spam by the same offenders.    Tetreau continued  “we need to look for a better way” but with the precedent set today with police taking down a sign for someone being offended will justify similar occurrences.  When I first posted the interview in 2014 many viewers commented they are out of work and they would gladly split the fines with the town and do the job.  It sounds less expensive than sending out a police officer to take them down.   The question is who will determine what is an offensive sign and what is not an offensive sign?

  1. so we should all start calling the police to let them know that the tag sale signs and the open house signs are offensive. Rest assured that I will be calling evryday

  2. This is compete and utter nonsense when police remove business signs when one overtly reactive “citizen” finds something offensive. What’s happening to this country, it’s an absolute shame and shame on the PD for allowing this nonsense to happen.
