2 Shootings In Bridgeport Overnight

Man was shot in the leg around 2:15am at Murphy's Law

Bridgeport–At 2:15am Police received a call of a large street fight with possible shots fired At Murphy’s Law at 239 Fairfield Avenue.   The crowd had pretty much dissipated when police arrived, but they did confirm there was a shooting after talking to witnesses. The witness gave a brief clothing description.    Police dispatched officers to Bridgeport Hospital and St. Vincent’s emergency rooms. Within ten minutes the victim arrived by private vehicle, he was shot in the leg. A short time later a man matching the description showed up at St. Vincent’s Emergency Room and he was arrested.

A short time later around 4am another shooting took place at 36 Belmont Ave another man was shot in the abdomen.  Brandon Jordan, 27, of 1147 Pembroke St. was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he is in serious but stable condition.  The victim knew the shooter and police expect to make an arrest.

Fire at Cambridge St. Fairfield

Fire broke out shortly after 9:30pm

Shortly after 9:30 pm Friday nigh firefighters received a call for a house fire at 78 Cambridge Street.  A police officer arrived on the scene first and confirmed to firefighters that the homeowner evacuated the home and the house was empty of occupants.  Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola told us that they still did a primary search and found and rescued the homeowner’s cat which suffered no ill effects.  The homeowner was taken to the hospital just as a precaution.   Gomola said the fire was confined to the first floor of the home but some fire did extend behind the walls and the cedar shingles.  No firefighters were injured battling the blaze.

2 Cars In 2 Houses In 2 Minutes In Bridgeport

Firefighters were very busy Friday afternoon. Shortly after 2:15pm firefighters were called to761 for a car that crashed into a garage.  The driver told us the accelerator got stuck.  She took out the iron railings on the porch and then hit the garage causing structural damage; The building inspector was called to the scene.  About two minutes later firefighters were called to two blocks away to the intersection of Grand Street and James Street for a car that jumped the curb, hit a chained linked fence and into a house.  The car did not make entry into the home.  The driver was unconscious when police arrived, was briefly in custody and then sent to the hospital, the extent of his injuries or what caused the crash are unknown.

Hawks Swooping On Ludlowe Students

Fairfield–Parents of Ludlowe Middle School students are receiving letters from the school regarding a hawk or hawks swooping down on students:

Greetings Parents – I would like to notify you about a situation we are managing here regarding a number of Hawks which have taken up residency on our campus. There have been some instances where the Hawks have swooped down on several of our students and a individual in the neighborhood who was riding her bicycle. We are working closely with the Fairfield Police DepartmentLudlowe Middle School . The FFPD is working closely with the Department of Environmental Protection and Fairfield Animal control. Please be assured that there have been no injuries and the number of students who have been impacted are minimal. I will continue to keep you posted and thank you for your support.

Although no nests have been found on campus authorities are working with animal control to locate them.

2 Cops Injured & 7 Arrested At Club Azure

Police had their hands full with large gathering at Club Azzure on Wood and Elmwood Ave around 11:30 Thursday night.   An officer on the scene estimated of over 500 in the club and in the parking lot.  One officer was injured when he was punched in the eye and one officer got caught up in some pepper spray and had to be treated.   One woman was taken to the hospital for a bite to her leg from the police dog.   A minimum of seven arrests were made and the police prisoner transport van  was called to the scene.  The club was closed and peace restored by midnight.   All officers were accounted for at special roll call taken at 12:18am.  Remaining patrons told me the large gathering was due to college student’s first week back to school.  The crowd consisted mainly of white males in the early 20s.  Taxi cabs had a flurry of business transporting the students back to campuses.

From the sound of the scanner calls the scene did not sound safe and I did not want bring my camera in a situation that could have cited further problems for police.  I arrived after most of the mayhem had been cleared.

Car Crash Comes To Rest On Barlow Rd. Home

Shortly after 2pm Thursday a two car crash left to cars on the lawn of 518 Round Hill Road. The accident occurred at the intersection of Round Hill and Barlow Road near Fairfield University. Witnesses tell us it appeared the car driven by the woman MAY have had a seizure or medical condition. They said it appeared that she was trying to pass two car at the stop sign. She was transported to the hospital. The driver of the car that was struck said he was fine. Police are investigating.

Car Fire I-95 Fairfield

Fairfield Fire Department responded to a reported car fire on I-95 Southbound near
exit 24.  Engine 2, ladder 2 and car 3 arrived to find a minivan fully involved with fire on
the right hand breakdown lane. The driver was not in the vehicle, she was sitting in a Connecticut State Police vehicle.  Engine 2 and ladder 2 shutdown the right 2 lanes of the highway to attack the fire. Engine 2 used an 1 ¾ inch hand line to extinguish the fire. Engine 3 was also called to the seen to supply additional water.
The cause of the fire appears to have been accidental, and under investigation.
