#Bridgeport, Conn. (October 23, 2015) – Today, the Bridgeport Police Department announced that a recent escapee, Nelson Vega of Stratford, is in custody and being processed.Nelson Vega

 

In the midst of an active search by the Bridgeport Police Department, today at approximately 10:30 p.m., recent escapee Nelson Vega (01/03/86) turned himself in to Police Headquarters (300 Congress St.).

 

“Mr. Vega turned himself in as a direct result of police pressure,” said Police Chief Joseph Gaudett. “Our officers put the full court press on Mr. Vega’s friends, family, and associates. He knew he had two choices: he could turn himself in or we would bring him in. He got the message.”

 

Vega was charged with Escape from Custody, in addition to the previous Burglary charge.  Bond was set at $250,000.

 

BACKGROUND: On Tuesday, October 20 at around 6:30 a.m., Vega was arrested and booked for burglary.

 

On Wednesday, October 21 at approximately 9:30 a.m., police officers began the process of transporting Vega from the Bridgeport Police Department to the Golden Hill St. courthouse to be arraigned.

 

While being transferred Vega escaped police custody.
