Connecticut State Troopers are patrolling highways and roads in Connecticut over this 2018 Memorial Day weekend. During this enforcement period, troopers are utilizing both traditional and non-traditional patrol cars. The enforcement period began at 12:01 a.m. 5/25/18 and will run through 11:59 p.m. on 5/28/18. Troopers are focusing on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols are also in place over the entire weekend. Bridgeport News: Water Rescue At Seaside Park

8:22pm--#Bridgeport CT--First responders received a call of two adults and two children stuck on the rocks at Seaside Park.  Officials launched a "zodiac"/inflatable police and fireboat to rescue what turned out to be four adult males.  Assistant Fire Chief Rich D'Onofrio told me that the men were from New York and were unfamiliar with the location and tides.  The chief said they are called out a couple times over the summer for these type of rescues despite frequent warnings from the police throughout the day.

Bridgeport News: Bicyclist Pinned Under SUV

UPDATE: Police said Cabot L. Barksdale 5/3/54 of 85 Concord Street Bridgeport was operating a Ford Edge SUV south on Park Avenue then turn west on Garden Street striking a male bicyclist traveling northbound on Garden Street.  Witnesses said the Ford Edge accelerated and struck the bicyclist and dragged him about ten feet.  The bicyclist lay under the SUV.  When officers arrived they found Cabot outside the vehicle smelling of an alcoholic beverage and highly agitated that he had just struck a person.  A pint of vodka and a cold 12 ounce can of beer were found in the driver's seat area.  Patrol arrested Barksdale for driving Under the Influence. Bridgeport News: Fishermen Rescue 14 Year Old Autistic Boy From The Water

3:15pm--#Fairfield CT--#Bridgeport CT-- A fourteen-year-old autistic boy from Monroe walked along the sandbar from Fairfield beach. As the water began to rise for the 3:56pm high tide, the boy began to panic. Nearby fishermen spotted the boy and picked brought him aboard their boat. The boy was brought to the Pier 5 where first responders were staged, he was checked out by EMS and he only suffered some cuts and scratches from the rough portion of the sandbar.

Fairfield News: Bomb Threat A Hoax

#Fairfield CT-- On May 25th, 2018 the Fairfield Police Department School Safety Unit received a report of a bomb threat at Fairfield Warde High School. Preliminary investigation revealed that a juvenile, who is currently in custody at Headquarters, fabricated the threat. As a precautionary measure, the building and high school campus have been evacuated and are currently closed. All activities on school property have been canceled. The police department has just cleared the campus and the threat was deemed not credible. This case is currently being investigated by the Fairfield Police School Safety Unit.
