STRATFORD LIBRARY SEEKS BOOK DONATIONS FOR ANNUAL SALE

The Stratford Library Board is currently requesting donations for its annual book sale. Contributors are urged to recycle their good books to share with others and help the Stratford Library increase their book purchase fund at the same time. The book sale fund-raiser is being organized this year by the SLA Board of Trustees member Shelley Hall of Stratford. Donations of good hard cover books and paperbacks, fiction or non-fiction as well as sound and video recordings, can be brought to the library. A special book collection bin is on site in the Main Lobby. Apartment Fire

Bridgeport firefighters responded to an apartment fire at the Seabreeze Apartments, located at 223 Iranistan Avenue, earlier today. According to unconfirmed radio reports, firefighters forced entry into the unit and quickly extinguished the flames using a portable tank of water. The fire was successfully contained to the kitchen and living room area, preventing further damage to the building. Frozen Puppies Found in Plastic Bags in Bridgeport, Investigation Underway

On Tuesday, January 22, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Bridgeport Animal Control officers responded to a disturbing report near the intersection of Newfield Avenue and Orange Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two plastic bags containing the frozen remains of three deceased puppies. The puppies, believed to be newborns between one and five days old at the time of their death, were found in tragic conditions. Authorities are now awaiting necropsy results to determine additional details about their deaths. Bridgeport Animal Control and local police have launched an investigation and are seeking the public's assistance to identify those responsible for this act of animal cruelty. The Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street in Stratford, celebrates “National Take Your Child to the Library Day” on Saturday, February 1. The annual event is free and open to the public. ‘Take Your Child to the Library Day’ encourages families to visit their local library and discover everything it has to offer. This year’s theme is “Fun Around the World,” offering different activities throughout the day. Plumbing Fire in Apartment

Bridgeport Firefighters responded to a building that's partially occupied and has been converted into apartments in the 800 block of Main Street. There was a fire in the plumbing system that extended into a fourth-floor apartment. Crews encountered heavy smoke in the unit but managed to extinguish the fire, which was located beneath the bathtub. They had to break through the tile and open up the area to fully address the issue.
