(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong announced a new court order protecting federal homelessness funding after Connecticut and a multistate coalition, for a second time, defeated the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) attempt to cap funding for permanent housing. For more than two decades, HUD has embraced a commitment to permanent housing programs and the Housing First model, which prioritizes rapid placement in permanent housing without requiring people to first meet conditions such as sobriety or a minimum income threshold. STRATFORD, CT – The Stratford Health Department has announced its next series of Back-to-School Physical and Immunization Clinics for students under 19 years old. The upcoming clinics will be held on: • Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.• Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.• Monday, August 31, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All clinics will be held at the Stratford Health Department, 468 Birdseye Street, 3rd Floor, Stratford. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. Families may schedule an appointment by calling 203-385-4090. The clinics are intended to help ensure that Stratford students are healthy, protected, and prepared for the upcoming school year.

BRIDGEPORT MAN ARRESTED IN 2025 FATAL HIT-AND-RUN

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Bridgeport Police have arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed an 81-year-old pedestrian in July 2025. On July 13, 2025, at approximately 9:39 p.m., the Bridgeport Police Emergency Operations Center received several calls reporting a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Park Avenue and Maplewood Avenue. Callers reported that the vehicle fled the scene and that the female pedestrian had suffered serious injuries. Bridgeport Fire Engine 3, American Medical Response, and Bridgeport Police responded to the scene. Man Fatally Shot at P.T. Barnum Housing Complex

Bridgeport Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Johnny L. Nesmith, who was found outside Building 21 at the P.T. Barnum housing complex shortly after 1:00 a.m. Sunday. Police said Nesmith was struck multiple times and later pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital, marking the city’s sixth homicide of the year. The shooting happened hours after a P.T. Barnum residents reunion was held across the street, and police said a crowd was nearby when the gunfire occurred. Detectives are urging witnesses to come forward and contact Detective Laura Azevedo-Rasuk at (203) 581-5235.

GOVERNOR LAMONT CALLS FOR REVIEW OF SAFETY CAMERAS AND AUTOMATED LICENSE PLATE READER TECHNOLOGY

GOVERNOR LAMONT ANNOUNCES CONNECTICUT’S MINIMUM WAGE WILL INCREASE TO $17.48 ON JANUARY 1, 2027

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that Connecticut’s minimum wage will adjust to $17.48 per hour beginning January 1, 2027—an increase from the 2026 rate of $16.94 per hour. The change is required under a state law Governor Lamont enacted in 2019 requiring the minimum wage to receive annual adjustments at the start of every calendar year based on economic indicators from the prior fiscal year.
