DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Structure Fire

Firefighters were called to a porch fire on Sixth Street. Witnesses told me it started on the 3rd floor of the back porch, quickly spreading. Firefighters were able to get the upper hand despite stiff winds fan the flames. Two Shot In Ansonia

On October 26, 2024 at about 2:30 A.M. the Ansonia Police Department responded to 130 Father Salemi Drive, the Saint Sebastian Club, for a report of a shooting. Officers first on scene found a 27-year-old male Ansonia resident that had been shot multiple times in the torso. The male was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. During the investigation a second male gunshot victim was found, he was shot once in the buttocks. This male, a 26-year-old Ansonia resident, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury. Health Insurance Enrollment for DACA Recipients Starting Nov. 1

Access Health CT (AHCT) today announced Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients will be eligible to enroll in health insurance coverage through state-based marketplaces beginning Nov. 1. This change in the law means DACA recipients living in Connecticut can enroll in health and dental insurance plans offered through AHCT. DACA is a policy that defers deportation for eligible individuals who do not have a lawful U.S. immigration status. DACA recipients from birth to 15 years old, or DACA recipients who are pregnant, may be eligible for HUSKY Health programs, including Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). False Report Arrest

On October 18, 2024, Milford Police arrested 33-year-old Veratisha Morey of Bridgeport after she turned herself in on an active arrest warrant. Morey had previously reported to police that she was receiving repeated phone calls from a male in violation of a court order. However, a forensic examination conducted by the Milford Police Computer Crimes Unit led to her being charged with making a false statement. Morey was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court on November 8, 2024.
