DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Here is the press release from Fairfield Fire Department we were first to tell you about: FAIRFIELD, CT, 4/4/2017: On Sunday morning at approximately 517 AM the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a car fire next to the gas pumps at 975 Kings Highway East, 975 Kings Highway East. Fairfield Fire Department Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 1, Rescue 1, Ladders 2, and Car 3 responded and arrived on scene at approximately 5:20. Upon arrival, the fire department found a car heavily involved and approximately fifty feet from the gas pumps. Sacred Heart University Student Passes

On 03/30/2017 at 7:08pm Fairfield Police Emergency Communications Center received a 911 emergency call reporting a female student choking in the Sacred Heart University, university commons area. Responding officers arrived on campus to find a 20 year old female identified as Caitlin Nelson (05/03/1996), of Clark New Jersey unresponsive and not breathing. Officers initiated immediate life-saving efforts to the victim before AMR paramedics arrived and transported her to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for additional care. Further investigation revealed that Caitlin was participating in a Greek Life Organization pancake eating contest. Bridgeport News: Pursuit Terminated

5:05pm--UPDATE: The car has been stopped and two people detained near the McDonalds at Commerce  Drive and Fairfield Avenue.  The two suspects are allegedly wanted for a possible armed robbery.     4:55pm--A pursuit rolling through most side roads in the Hollow was almost terminated before they almost hit officers at Arlington and Garfield and almost hit two pedestrians on Capital Avenue.  The pursuit was ended on Wood Avenue near North Avenue.   This news report is made possible by:http://trexcaraudio.com

Fairfield News: Smash And Grab

UPDATE: It appears to be more than a smash and grab.  Fairfield Police says it appears that the lock cylinder was removed.  The cash register and cigarettes stolen at time of call.  There were two suspects.  Both wearing  hooded sweatshirts,   1 with red mask / 1 with white mask.  A crowbar used for entry.  Bridgeport Police recovered cash register at Capitol & Laurel Avenue which was connfirmed to be the one taken from this burglary.     12:35am--#Fairfield CT-- There was a smash and grab robbery at the  Citgo at 2515 Black Rock Turnpike.  Taken was Newport cigarettes and other items.  The suspect fled in a pick up truck towards the Merritt Parkway.   This news report is made possible by:

Bridgeport News: Motorcyclist Struck

UPDATE: From the Fairfield Police: This was a one vehicle (motorcycle) type collision that occurred on Brooklawn Ave., just north of its intersection with Algonquin Rd. The collision investigation revealed that Vehicle #1 was traveling southbound on Brooklawn Ave., when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed in the roadway. Operator #1 originally left the scene of accident.   Upon further investigation, we learned that he was currently at St. Vincent's Hospital. Op #1 explained while traveling southbound on Brooklawn Ave., he lost control of the bike and was unable to stop appropriately so he "dumped" the bike.
