Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim issues recommended curfew of 8:00pm for City of Bridgeport.  Mayor Ganim has sent the message to Stay Safe at Home in an effort to “double-down” and reinforce the Governor Lamont’s “Stay Safe, Stay Home” order.   This is a recommended curfew to save lives.

As seen on the State of Connecticut’s website, the Governor’s order is as follows:

Notice Stay informed about coronavirus (COVID-19): Governor Lamont is telling Connecticut residents to “Stay Safe, Stay Home.” All non-essential workers are directed to work from home, and social and recreational gatherings of more than five are prohibited.

This morning and in the days ahead, city residents will receive an Emergency Operations Communications voice message generated via automation system to advise them of the “Stay Home” order.     The message is as follows:

A message from Mayor Ganim, City of Bridgeport.   Mayor Ganim has ordered Stay Home protocol in the City of Bridgeport as of Wednesday, April 8^th.  For more information join the Facebook Live at Joe Ganim, or tune into WICC 600 or Radio Cumbre 1450 at 12:30pm today.

Tomorrow, Bridgeport residents can expect to see signage throughout the entire city via yard signs and VMS signs.  In addition, the EOC has requested more VMS signage from our Regional coordinator of Emergency Management.   Attached is a copy of the yard sign that will be seen throughout the city.

Mayor Ganim and city officials have been in contact with grocery stores and restaurants, most are closed, or closing at or around 8:00pm.   Grocers and restaurant owners are receptive to the Stay Home order in the interest of protecting their customers, employees and community.  It was discussed and considered that customers and residents may be traveling home from picking up their essentials just after 8:00pm.   The City also understands and recognizes that employees of these establishments may have more work to do and will be leaving their job site after the 8:00pm closing time.

All city, state and local officials, community leaders, as well as Bridgeport residents are encouraged to create their own Stay Safe, Stay Home messaging and share this message city-wide in the days ahead on social media and any means possible.

Mayor Ganim will talk with Anne Diamond, President of Bridgeport Hospital and Vince DiBattista, President of Hartford Healthcare- St. Vincent’s Medical Center, on the Facebook Live Virtual Town Hall tomorrow at 12:30pm to share their expert advice with Bridgeport residents.

This curfew is public safety measure and an effort to PROTECT our residents from COVID-19 and to help flatten the curve, minimize residents contracting the coronavirus, and ultimately minimize fatalities.   Our healthcare workers at Bridgeport Hospital and St. Vincent’s are experiencing the surge and saving lives, we NEED to support them by Staying Home.

2020-04-07@11:36pm–#Bridgeport CT– A man with a gun was found face down and unresponsive on the sidewalk on Park Avenue near Worth Street.  It’s not knowing why he was unresponsive but he was not shot.  Police recovered the firearm.

 

2020-04-07@7:30pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police are investigating a double stabbing in the 200 block of Hough Avenue.  The first radio reports said the girlfriend stabbed the boyfriend and short time later another report of a second person stabbed.  The girlfriend fled on foot but police located her and made the arrest.  There was a second scene on Pembroke Street, I could not verify if it was the second victim or the girlfriend.

 

2020-04-07@4:40pm–#Bridgeport CT—Bridgeport Firefighters received a call for a water rescue off Pleasure Beach. Assistant Chief William Hathaway told me that two kayakers were rescued, one was in the water for about twenty minutes prior to their dispatch. Fireboat 233 was able to pull the victims out of the water. EMS took one kayaker to the hospital suffering from hypothermia. The air temperature was 65f degrees according to the Interstate race car thermometer, .seatemperature.org said the water temperature was 41f degrees. Generally, a person can survive in 41-degree F (5-degree C) water for 10, 15 or 20 minutes before the muscles get weak, you lose coordination and strength, which happens because the blood moves away from the extremities and toward the center, or core, of the body.

2020-04-07@2:44pm–#Bridgeport CT– A person in the 200 block of Dover Street is reporting that a gray sedan fired into their home, bullets entered their living room and bedroom.  Police are investigating.

UPDATE: Police have one person in custody and a firearm recovered.

 

2020-04-07@12:04am–#Bridgeport CT– Initial report of a person shot on East Pipking Way turned out to be a bullet through an apartment window.  No one was shot.  A short time later police received a call that someone was shot in the 500 block of East Main Street.  Police found no victim but received a call from Bridgeport Hospital that a gunshot victim arrived at the emergency room.  Police are now investigating a possible crime scene on Steuben Street.

Bridgeport Police is currently trying to locate a teenager, classified as an endangered runaway, who tends to frequent the area of downtown Bridgeport bus station.

Christine Smith, 17, was described in a Silver Alert as a black female, 5 foot 6 inches, 165 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing a red Tommy Hilfiger brand hoody with white, grey and orange Jordan sneakers. She has been missing since February 25, 2020 from 56 Dayton Rd.

Anyone with information on the female teenager’s whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Gidden at 475-422-3487 or at 203-581-5253.
