2020-03-07@8:18pm–#Bridgeport CT– A Mad Rag manager at Pequonnock Street  called police that they are receiving hate calls after a video posted on Facebook shows and employee striking the customer’s hand and using hate speech in the video according to radio reports.

Bridgeport News: Morning Fire

2020-03-07@9:30am–#Bridgeport CT– Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire located at 888 North Ave at 9:30am. The first unit reported smoke showing from the rear of the building. The fire was contained to a small are in the walls on the second floor.

No injuries occurred at the fire. Searches of the building were negative. No one was inside at the time of the fire. Businesses occupy both floors, so no one was displaced. The fire is under investigation with the Fire Marshals Division.

Bridgeport News: Bridgeport Doctor First Confirmed Case of Coronavirus Disease

The City of Bridgeport was notified today by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health regarding the first confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) within this jurisdiction. The confirmed case involves a physician from New York State who rounded at Bridgeport Hospital, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 6, 2020.

“As we discussed yesterday during our City of Bridgeport Emergency Operations briefing, the EOC and Department of Public Health Teams remain in continual contact with all local, regional, state and federal partners to ensure we have the most up to date information and strategies regarding this virus” stated Mayor Ganim.

Extra emphasis on healthy hygiene is key to prevention. These steps include staying home and notifying your doctor if exhibiting fever, cough and shortness of breath symptoms.

“Prevention is critical with covering your cough and sneezes, washing your hands with soap at least for 20 seconds, sanitizing commonly touched objects and surfaces,” stated Scott Appleby, Director of OEM.

“The City has a preparedness plan and is in contact with the State DPH and CDC to continue providing updates to our community, schools, businesses, and other health care entities and remind residents of prevention steps to minimize the spread in our community,” Albertina Baptista Interim Director of the City Department of Public Health.

Bridgeport News: Foot Patrol Stops Vandalism

2020-03-05 #Bridgeport CT– Thursday night, PT Barnum Housing walking detail observed six juveniles vandalizing a parked and unoccupied motor vehicle near building 8.  The children were observed damaging all the windows and even stomping on the windshield of the vehicle. Upon seeing uniformed officers they fled. One juvenile was able to be located and subsequently issued a juveniles complaint summons. The owner of the vehicle was located and had his vehicle towed.

Bridgeport News: 2 Shot In Parked Car Overnight

2020-03-06#Bridgeport CT– Police say two men in their 20’s were hit by gunfire while sitting in a parked car on Carrie Street.  A third passenger who was not hit attempted to drive the vehicle to the hospital from the passenger seat crashed at Connecticut and Hollister Street.  One of the victims was immediately taken into surgery and his condition is not known at this time, the other victim is not critical according to police reports.  Police say earlier they engaged a vehicle believed to be responsible for the shooting after shots were fired but lost sight of the vehicle on I95 at exit 26 when it fled in speeds over 100mph.

Bridgeport News: Firefighters Battle Two Fires At The Same Time

2020-03-05@11:10am–#Bridgeport CT– Just after 11am the Bridgeport Emergency Communications began reviving numerous calls for a fire on Hansen Avenue. Arriving firefighters found heavy fire on all three floors including the porches as well as the radiant heat threatening the neighboring homes. Ten minutes into this fire firefighters also had another structure fire on Pearl Harbor Street which turned out to be an attic fire on a single family house. Remarkably, no one was injured in either fire. Chief Richard Thode said he does not believe the fires were connected. Stratford Fire assisted in battling the Pearl Harbor Street fire and assisted fresh staffing at the Hansen Avenue fire. Fairfield and Milford assisted in staffing the fire stations that were emptied to battle these fires.

According to radio reports 8 adults and 8 children need Red Cross assistance at the Hansen Avenue fire and 2 adults and 2 children require their help on Pearl Harbor. The fire marshal will be investigating both fires for the origin of the fires.
