Fairfield News: Arrest Mad In Car Break In’s

12:00am–#Fairfield CT–#Black Rock CT–Police nab a person wanted in car break in’s catching him after a brief foot pursuit behind Michael Gennaro’s Steakhouse at 238 Post Road.  The suspect was brought down after being tazed.  Sorry, this was the best photograph I was able get as the sergeant directed the patrol officer to block the scene with his police cruiser.  The suspect was transport to St. Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for injuries prior to booking.  This may be connected to a break in at Lexus Pre-Owned vehicles on Commerce Drive. I know the sergeant wasn’t talking and the Shift Commander was on the road so I’ll check with Lt. Perez tomorrow.

Bridgeport News: He’s Running!

Despite Democratic Primary winner Joe Ganim’s plea for Mayor Bill Finch to step aside for the good the party Bill Finch released this statement/press release today:
As a father, and as chief executive of our state’s largest city, it’s my job to think about the long run.
It’s my job to make Bridgeport an even better city than it is today — a place where my kids, and your kids, will choose to live, work, and raise their families here, too.
Regardless of party affiliation, as your mayor, I represent everyone in Bridgeport.
Our better tomorrow is already taking shape — the re-opening of Pleasure Beach after years of neglect, building at Steelpointe Harbor after decades of broken promises and corruption, improving downtown, and building a second train station.
These are just some of the projects bringing confidence back to the city while creating thousands of jobs.
I remain concerned as a Bridgeport resident about the future of our city, and the corruption that so badly has held our city back for far too long. I’m worried that job creators and investors will stop investing in our city with the posterchild of corruption at the helm.
With that, I plan on accepting the Job Creation Party endorsement and running in the General Election on Nov. 3, 2015.
Bridgeport, you still have an honest mayor who intends to keep the future bright for Bridgeport.
So I hope you’ll join me as a Jobs Creator, and move forward to November, stronger than ever.
Because in this election, Bridgeporters have a clear choice: We can either continue moving forward honestly, OR, we go back to the failed policies of greed, crime, corruption, lies, and mismanagement.
Let’s keep moving the city forward.
Thank you.
Bill Finch
Mayor of Bridgeport

Bridgeport Police Department Arrests Homicide Suspect Following Vehicle Pursuit

Here is the press release on the story we told you as it happened:

#Bridgeport, Conn. (September 17, 2015) Yesterday evening the Bridgeport Police Department arrested a suspect in an open Bridgeport homicide case after a routine traffic stop turned into a motor vehicle pursuit. Cewell Sharpe (12/17/82) of Bridgeport is a possible suspect in an open homicide case. In connection with the motor vehicle pursuit, Sharpe was charged with operating with a suspended license, reckless driving, engaging in pursuit, failure to obey a stop sign, and violating conditions of a release.  In addition, Sharpe was out on bond for two arrests that occurred on May 7, 2015 when he was charged with larceny, interfering with police, possession of narcotics, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

On September 17, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. police officers attempted to pull over a red Toyota Corolla on Park Ave. near the intersection with Benham Ave. after the Toyota violated a stop sign. The driver, Cewell Sharpe, pulled over momentarily and then quickly sped off.  The police patrol car pursued the vehicle as it travelled southbound on Park Ave then eastbound on Harral Ave. then southbound on Coleman St.  As the Toyota approached a red traffic signal on Coleman St. at the Washington Ave. intersection the Toyota swerved right and struck a parked, unoccupied blue colored Chevy.   The Toyota crossed over Washington Ave. and onto the Route 8-25 Connector Southbound. The Toyota then travelled on the right shoulder of the connector then cut off numerous vehicles to the extreme left side of the connector to the on-ramp of tfor I-95 Northbound.  Upon reaching the entrance to I-95 Northbound Sharpe slammed on the brakes in an apparent attempt to make the police vehicle strike the Toyota.  Due to the Toyota’s erratic driving behavior, the police officer swerved and subsequently collided with the Toyota.  Then both the Toyota and the police vehicle struck the center concrete barrier head on.

Police officers took Sharpe and the front seat passenger into custody without incident.  The front seat passenger was subsequently released without charges.    The police officer driving the vehicle involved in the collision was injured and transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital.
